Hello all

I'm about to buy a stock 10/22, for target shooting up to 100 yards. What would you recommend as a rimfire scope in terms of highest value/dollar? I'm looking at the Bushnell 3-9 at the moment, any other scopes worth considering? Any issues with eye relief with the Bushnell 3-9 rimfire on a 10/22 (eg too much eye relief)? Price range ~$60-100.

Also, what ring mounts should I get with the scope?

cheers

You need AO.

I have a Bushnell Sportview 3X9 32mm on a Win 250 .22lr. It's a good scope 50 to 100yds but below that you realize the focus is way off for 25yd plinking or shooting really small groups in .22 matches. For a .22 you will want to be sure the scope you have is focused for 50yds or has an adjustable focus for all .22 ranges. I think most scopes you find are optimised for bigger guns shooting 100+yds.

Hard to recommend something I don't know is available in Canada. I have a NikkoStirling Nighteater 3X10 44mm side focus that I purchased from the NRA for $150US that is the best .22 scope I have right now. Love it. NikkoStirling has some .22 scopes with adjustable objectives under the Mountmaster label that are in your price range but I have not tried these myself (they come with 3/8" recoil stop rings). A lot of good things said about the Mueller brand of scopes especially the APV (all purpose variable) that is not much more than you are budgetting (about $114US). I am planning to get a Mueller APT for my 10/22 that I just built up. Centerpoint scopes get good comments too and are right within your price range. Usually available at Walmarts here.

Just remember you get what you pay for. A lot of sub $100 scopes out there not worth the money. You'll find much better in the $100 to $200 range.

As for rings for the scope. Forget .22 dovetail rings. There are good Weaver and mil style scope mounts for the Ruger out there that mount in the holes in the receiver. You will want one of these eventually and will be more secure for target work. I threw away my Ruger scope rail and got a Weaver style, no chance of scope slippage.

I use a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 AO on my 10/22 and it suits me just fine. Runs about $120. I also use Burris steel rings rather than the crappy ones that sometimes are included with lower priced scopes.

I have used a bushnell banner 4-12x for some time on my 10/22. Pretty good scope overall.

However, I recently switched to an Olivon 6x44AO mildot scope. Got it for 1/2 price (i.e. $65) as a demo. Fantastic scope for the money. Good for 150 yard gopher shots and super clear. Actually, I bought a second one once I found out how good they are.

So here's a vote in favor of the fixed power scopes. There's one less ring to fool around with, and you an actually use the mil dots to range the target with a fixed power scope.

I'm done with any bushnell sportview class scopes, there is better out there for a bit more money.

Just ordered a BSA 3-9x40 from Frontier for $69... priced is attractive, I hope the quality is there.

I've been having excellent results with the Tasco Target/Varmint 2.5-10x42 with the Mil-Dot recticle. Nice clear picture, fine crosshairs and works really well in my .22LR and on my bro's .223 Rem.
