10/22 Redemption!

Some of you may remember a couple years back i had a hell of a problem with a barrel i was trying to put onto a Ruger 10/22.
it was a TacSol X-ring barrel and i got it stuck going into the receiver and had to use a hammer to get it out.
it got so bad i had to send it to a Gunsmith to have him remove it and then found out that i had wrecked the barrel.
for years i had the barrel above my desk in my shop up on the wall so i could look at it and remember my screw up.

couple weeks ago i had enough.
$280 of gun barrel just sitting there, i had to try to fix it!
so i started mucking around with it trying to see if i could fix the damage i had done and clean up the barrel a little.
it was no use, i just didnt have the tools required to do matal work.

than, out of the mist a post appeared on CGN and a fella had done some work to his old 10/22 and the work he did sounded a lot like what i needed to have done to this barrel to get it working..... so i made contact.

our Brother CGN'r asked me to send him the offending barrel and he would have a look at it in his down time.
he received the barrel and the barrel was sent back to me the same day - he did what he could, he said.

well, im aglow with joy!
he cleaned up that cursed barrel and it looks brand new!
i put it into the brand new 10/22 that it was originally destined for and drove out to the gravel pit and........
*pause for dramatic effect!*

the gun ran flawlessly!!!!!!

i am so happy!
i had a dream of making this gun for a long time now and to finally have it done and working just makes me happier than a pig in.... well you know.

the gun is soooooooooooo light!
with everything on it its total weight is 4lbs 6oz which compared to all my other 10/22's is a feather!

im just so impressed that a Brother CGN'r would use his skill set to help another out.... for free too might i add!

im not gonna mention any names because i dont know if he wants anyone else harassing him but he knows who he is and he knows how tickled i am to get this gremlin off my back.

I know the feeling of fixing things till they break...
Sounds like the first guy who removed the barrel wasnt much of a GS to not have been able to offer a solution.
Do you have pics of the offending barrel before the second trip for repair ?

the first guy trying to remove the stuck barrel was me with a piece of wood dowel and a mini sledge hammer.
which, and lets be honest, for the most part would not have done anything to the barrel.
BUT, the TacSol barrel is aluminum - a fact i did not think about when i started jumping off the top rope with the peoples elbow when delivering the blows from the hammer.

so what happened was the aluminum distorted around where the bullet goes in making the hole oblong and deforming the breach face with a small divot, ever so small.
i think it also marred up the extractor cut a bit.

the guy was a good smith, i think the problem was they had no experience dealing with aluminum as all the stuff they make and work on is metal.
they did sell me a new metal barrel well below cost price as they felt bad for me killing a expensive barrel.
