Hi there, so I am buying my first rifle and would like to know which scope i should get for it. I will be doing all target shooting with it so I want something that is good and will last me. I have seen the price range from 50-$$$$ so I am kinda lost. I also dont understand the whole numbers and even which one i should I get. I dont just want to ask the guy in the store which one he would get I want the right one for me!!! thanks in advance for your help deciphering...

What are you doing with the 10/22? Hunting? Varmint? Target shooting? Plinking? All of the above?

Edit, oops, should read the whole thing

maybe a Nikon Prostaff? Ideally, you looking for a 9X magnification or minimum 2-7x. and a 40mm objective is good (higher number lets in more light, 50 is real bright)

That will get you to zero at 50 yards and push it to 100 yards should you decide. If you can afford, try a Bushnell Elite 3200 off the Equipment Exchange.

I have seen some Tasco with Japanese glass kicking around as well.

Nikon Prostaff P22 is hands down the nicest rimfire scope I have seen. Nut it is a little bit tactical for some.

About $180 I believe. I think Prophet River has em on their site. ;)

There is also a Nikon Prostaff 4x32, or a 3-9x40 both being dedicated rimfire scopes.

It is important to either buy a dedicated rimfire scope, or a scope with Adjustable Objective(AO) in order to have the correct parallax free setting at shorter distances, as most scopes are set up for 100m which is not your typical 22 distance.

Dont know if it matters but I put a bushnell banner 4-18X40 on my 10/22 and really liked it. It has adjustable focus right down to 25yards... very clear and lots of magnification if I want bring the target way up close. You can get a scope like that used for about $100-125. I also used a Tasco 4-12X40. The cheaper version (I think it was about $150 new). And it worked fine. But having the adjustable focus on the bushnell was much nicer.
