Hey everyone,

Apologies if this has been covered, the search function is useless, I won't waste any more of my life screwing with it.

I am having an issue (or maybe a non-issue) with my 10/22 safety switch. I have noticed that when the rifle is uncocked that the safety switch will only push part way into the safe position. I can still see the red, which just illicits a gut reaction, and the trigger will still pull. No biggie usually because it is not cocked and there won't be a round in the chamber. When there is a round chambered and the rifle is cocked, the safety will depress fully into the safe position and prevent me from pulling the trigger, as it should.

Is this common? (It may be worthwhile to note, that I pulled the group partially apart to do the auto bolt release mod. As far as I can tell I reassembled it how it should be. I didn't touch the safety.)

Thanks everyone,

PX

No problem at all.

The safety won't move to "safe" unless the hammer is cocked. The sear has to be in the firing position in order for the safety to engage. That's the way Ruger designed it.

yeah, what Charles said. Don't worry, your rifle is fine.

There are lots of firearms that you can't put the safety on unless they are cocked.
