10/22 scope recommendations

I have a Simmons 3-9 x32 on my 10/22, $90 from Cabelas for the top end one (the 3-9 O/A).

Works well as I am usually shooting max 100 yards.

Do you shoot other guns?
What distance fo you want to shoot?
Do you off hand shoot or mostly benchrest shoot.
Cant give proper advise without this info!!!!

I just picked up a 2-7X32 Vortex Crossfire II Rimfire model from one of the site sponsor's for 189 bucks. It's sitting on top of my Savage 93R17 17 HMR.

I figured on spending no more than 250 bucks for a scope and since I plan on using it for shooting crows I didn't necessarily need something that would transmit the last bit of light in the sky.

At the pricepoint I was looking at my candidates were 1) Nikon Prostaff (not 5 or 7, just the regular Prostaff) 2-7X32 at the same price 2) Bushnell 2-7X32 Rimfire - same price 3) Burris Predator Quest or Fullfield II 2-7X35 in the $249 price range and 4) Hawke Vantage 4-12X40 rimfire (17HMR model) at $230.

(I did not consider any scopes that I could not hold in my hand and look through before I bought them, so those five were what was available in my local market when I was shopping)

I really like the Hawke BUT it utilizes a lighted reticle and I just didn't want the added hassle of a battery - not for my intended use.

When I compared, side by side the other options the Burris models were the "clearest" but also had the busiest reticles - while I own other Burris scopes and are my preferred brand on my big game calibers, again, in this application I wanted a standard duplex and both of them had the parallax pre-set to 100 yards - not exactly an "all round" rimfire setting.

Although the Crossfire II is Vortex's "bottom end" the glass was "very clear" (way better than the Bushnell) and didn't get blurry at max magnification even out at the edges (no matter how I adjusted the Prostaff couldn't produce a clear image at 7X) and it (Vortex) had a simple duplex reticle with a 50 yard parallax it "won the contest" for my particular application.

If I find I want to start stretching the 17 HMR out past 150 yards (it's capable, me? maybe not so much) then I will add a Ballistic Matched Turret from Vortex.

So as someone else here stated - until you decide what your exact use will be, what your preferences/needs are (reticle, light gathering etc) and even what your budget is, it's tough to try and give you a suggestion that will work for you.

The Vortex Crossfire II Rimfire Duplex 2-7X32 does "exactly" what I wanted from a scope for the particular rifle I mounted it on and came in at the pricepoint I wanted to spend for that rifle - next guy over using the same rifle may have drastically different wants/needs, so my experience will be of "no use" to him.

I'm interested to hear what people have to say about this topic. I plan on pimping out my Ruger 10/22 in the future with an ATI TactLite Stock and a just a simple Tasco Red Dot (along with some other miscellaneous doodads).

Thoughts on the Tasco? Quick target acquisition and cost effective. Seems like it should hold up just fine on a .22 LR.

Does dot size matter?
If group size matters, dot size does!
A 6moa dot maens 3" @ 50yds. Thus your dot will cover 3" so how could you shoot a 1" group?
Things to think about.
Cheap rds have large dot moa.
A good rds like said before is the trs-25.
Also the HD-7.
Again, it all depends what your going to do with it.
Again, what distance, offhand, other guns swapping and so on?

trs-25

Super fun! Super fast!

If your target shooting at the range you probably want magnification (unless you have hawkeyes)
in that case 10x imho would be plenty
