Hi guys,

Picked up a 10/22 for plinking purposes, not serious target shooting or anything, kind of think a vertical foregrip would be kinda fun... Anyone know if you can screw a rail on to the bottom of the stock? It is pretty chunky and flat...

Anyone got any recommendations for what kind of screws to use?

Thanks

Wood or synthetic stock? I've not had either in my hands, but for the wood you could probably just use a standard wood screw from Home Depot... You can get them with a variety of heads, so just find the one with the profile that matches the rail (either the wedge-shaped countersunk ones, or flat ones). I'd just make sure to drill pilot holes and get a screw that won't pass completely through the stock.

If it's a synthetic stock, then it's probably hollow on the inside... In that case, I would just drill where you want the holes, then use machine screws from the outside and nuts on the inside to attach the rail.

Another thing to consider is positioning. Make sure you shoulder the rifle before committing to a position and make sure you have enough reach to get your hand on it properly. I've seen it happen where although the position picked "looked" OK, in actuallity the owner of the rifle could barely reach the vertical grip. He couldn't wrap his hand around it, but he could reach it.
It's completely worthless if you can't grab it properly
