Bought an sr-22 just before Christmas and took it out on its maiden voyage.Right away we noticed weird first shot trigger pull after engaging safety. Second shot was much nicer. Never encountered this malady on any other firearm so ordered up a new hammer (being the cheap prick that i am) Then came the JB weld trick and polishing and chamfering and shims and well you know it just goes on and on.
So i,m fitting and testing and polishing and dissassembling and assembling and trigger pull is starting to feel much nicer.Never had safety apart but out of habit i check it, yup still works.Dissengage safety and "DAMMIT" weird ass first shot trigger pull is back!!!???
Back we go armed with trusty reading glasses and flashlight. Seems safety has a nasty habit of travelling a little too far to the port side (off for you flatlanders, still miss that praire hospitality) Well, never had this problem with the metal trigger housings guess i,m learning why fellas are scouring the globe trying to find them.
So now i,m doin the dreaded 10/22 safety removal/reassembly,accomplished many years ago but long forgotten. Thanks to the "Internets" i discovered the pencil as a dummy safety, with hole drilled in it to push plunger/spring down.Works super. How the hell did i do this before? So to sum it up.Safety was travelling too far to left and sear would contact safety pushing it out of the way and causing the weirdest evil grinding trigger pull you ever did feel.
My solution was to remove material from safety where sear was hanging up on it,i guess a fella could also reform detents in bottom of sear.Hope this is helpfull to someone. Anybody wanna trade their crappy metal trigger housing for a sweet "eternally black tactical unbreakable blah, blah, blah" housing? Happy Trails
