Once again I seem to have more 10/22's than I really need. I intend to take these two rifles, neither of which I can remember shooting in a long time, (maybe last year?) and shooting them side by side to determine which will stay and which will go. Kind of a survival of the fittest shoot-out challenge. This whole idea came about because I have someone interested in buying the Volquartsen (VQ) take down (TD) barrel. So the question is should I sell the TD barrel or the Dlask/kidd barrelled action ?

This rifle was assembled from 100% used parts. Either used items bought on the EE or items I had laying around.

Both rifles are freshly cleaned and lightly lubed. I intend to compare reliability and accuracy of the 2 setups. If I think it is necessary, I may switch the higher magnification Bushnell scope onto the TD rifle after testing it on the Dlask rifle.
I'm thinking I will use 3 types of ammo: American Eagle 40 grain (my go to cheap plinking ammo), CCI Standard Velocity (my go to for inexpensive target shooting) and SK Rifle Match (my go to moderately priced precision target ammo). 25 and 50 yard groups of each ammo type will be compared.

I will post the results once I get a chance to go to the range. Now I just need the weather to cooperate (currently wet snow/rain/fog).

After owning several short barrel 22s I found I prefer a 16” barrel and over due to noise and carrying in the brush. So if they both shot the same I would keep the long gun. Can the dlask receiver be adapted for takedown? BTW two really great looking rifles you have there. I would swap the carbon fibre barrel to the dlask receiver.
 
May I ask about the bottom magpul stock? It looks great, so I searched online but yours looks different...did you do something more than just chop it shorter?

The feel and the balance of the TD with the VQ barrel is great. I originally also had the VQ aluminum forend - it looked and felt great but was very heavy. I didn't really think about it until a friend commented, asking why anyone would put such a heavy forend on such a light barrel. Once I tried it with the Magpul forend I never considered re-installing the VQ forend. This combination would make a great field carry or hunting rifle, but I shoot 99% of the time at a range either sitting or standing at a bench, so the advantages of the light weight and great balance are somewhat wasted on me.

Thanks, no, the TD barrel is not able to be mounted on a non-TD receiver.

I cut a junk out of the forend so that the stock wasn't longer than the barrel. I cut a short section off the front and grafted it back on so that it looks almost factory.

Update

I finally got a chance to go to the range today thanks to a calm sunny day coinciding with a day off work. I shot both rifle configurations shown above at 25 and 50 yards using Federal American Eagle 40 grain (AE) and CCI Standard Velocity 40 grain (SV). Unfortunately the brick of SK Rifle Match I thought I had in the safe has gone missing, so I was not able to test with my favourite SK ammo.

Here are the results (best of 3 ten round groups reported in each case):

10/22 with 10" Kidd Barrel: 25yd: AE=0.37"
10/22 with 10" Kidd Barrel: 25yd: SV=0.38"
10/22 with 10" Kidd Barrel: 50yd: AE=0.93"
10/22 with 10" Kidd Barrel: 50yd: SV=0.63"

10/22TD with VQ Barrel: 25yd: AE=1.39"
10/22TD with VQ Barrel: 25yd: SV=0.51"
10/22TD with VQ Barrel: 50yd: AE=2.90"
10/22TD with VQ Barrel: 50yd: SV=0.92"

As you can see the VQ barrel rifle really does not like the American Eagle ammo. It faired better with the CCI SV, but was still bested every time by the Kidd barrel rifle.

The good news is that both rifles functioned flawlessly with both ammo types.

I chopped a chunk out of the middle of the Magpul forend and used the inner reversible barrel tray to splice the front section for the forend back onto the main part of the stock. It is just held together with friction right now, but I intend to epoxy or JB Weld it together. Because of the taper of the forend, there is a slight step where the stock is spliced together, so a bit of filler and sanding is also required.
