I have a 1022 with the laminate stock. im having an accuracy issue of vertical shot stringing at 50 yards and have tried different ammo with no results. i lowered the torque on the barrel v block and during reassembly i noticed the gun doesn't fit great in the stock.
its sort of high centered near the takedown screw. even with the screw tight i can move the action up and down very little. the few other guns ive worked on have had absolutely no movement in the stock. im assuming this is contributing to my accuracy issue. i can't see anything out of place on the gun or stock. i am interested in what other people think of this.
thanks.

okay thank you. ive been reading alot about bedding. i want to try using jb weld as a bedding epoxy. just trying to figure out if i should bed the barrel as well or have a pressure point neat the barrel band. the barrel channel has little raised ridges that i assume are to support the barrel. to my untrained eye they look uneven and should probably be sanded out.

Ahhh! This reminds me of my old 1022 barrel, it was shooting waaay to high, I changed the stock, sights and scope and nothing ever worked. I remember when it was windy and I went pretty fast with my 24 feet canoe and my barrel some how shifted, not straight. I had to throw away that poor barrel. I am happy now that happened because I now have a upgraded barrel with a picatinny rail on it. I hope you fix the problem, as I took long time to find out to fix mine.

A friend and I completely free floated the barrels on a few.
If your handy with a file you can remove some material from the inside of the barrel band.
This way it does not touch the barrel and mess up accuracy.

If your stock is wood.
Others have cut the stock off where the barrel band starts. rounded it to their liking, then sanded and refinished.
If you wanted to do this, but not to your stock, take off stocks can be found on the equipment exchange all the time.

You might want to ask around your local club. See if anyone does their own trigger jobs.
You may be able to give someone a few bucks to stone your sear, radius the back of your hammer,
polish a few other parts and snip a bit off the trigger spring
For me anyway, Rugers are more fun with 1.5lb trigger pulls.

A warning... Though fun, tinkering with 10/22's can get expensive, how far do you want to go down the rabbit hole?
I bought a 20 inch Kidd match barrel for mine, & a Boyds Pro Varmint Stock.
It wears a Sightron S-tac 4-20x50 mounted with 30mm Burris Signature Zee Rings. (Plastic inserts protect your scope investment from ring marks.)
It was fun picking out parts and helping a friend assemble it.
I bought a Kidd Trigger Kit, a Kidd Bolt Buffer, a Midwest Industries Scope Rail, & a Volquartsen Compensater.
It's not the best or the fanciest, but I enjoy it. Where ever your build ends up, have fun.

Talking expensive . You forgot the Titan stock with rear anchor pin, only 400$ Canadian shipped and you may still get nicked by customs

that's a nice setup sakoman. it all started when i put a vx freedom scope on the gun. it was getting pretty big groups at 50 yards and obviously the stock trigger sucks so i put in the ruger bx drop in trigger. the trigger actually feels pretty good and its made my groups alot narrower.
currently im getting groups 5/8 inch wide and 3 1/4 inch tall. even though the play is minimal when i set the rifle into the stock it rocks up and down like a seesaw. im trying to decide if i want to buy the x22 hunter stock or bed the one i have. if i can get under an inch groups at 50 yards id be happy with that.
though its a totally different beast its amazing how my tikka in 308 is getting under an inch at 100 yards. the brand may have changed my idea of a rifle lol

Thank you Jay, Tikka's are very nice Finnish rifles. My friend bought A T1X earlier this year, and we are both impressed with it's fit, finish, & accuracy. Bolt action 22's are also a lot of fun, and very accurate.

I prefer the philosophy of bedding the action and barrel, after establishing a barrel wedge bolt torque,

But i didnt use enough mold release agent on the replacement bull barrel (18" green mtn), its all glued up tight! Cant remove from the stock for nuthin'!

Gaddam tack driver now
