10/22 Take Down - opinions from anyone?

I got one. Hit or miss in terms of the quality. I'll recommend a deep dive inspection in person before you buy it. I had a defective receiver that took 4 months for Ruger to replace.

Tighten the snug ring and it'll hold zero for the first while. But the moment the interlocking components start to wear out, you'll need to redo the zero again. Personally I won't waste time with mounting any optic off the receiver. I'm shooting mine off the stock sights now. You could consider the Magpul optic mount for a red dot. Accuracy is no better nor worst than a standard 10/22, mine is capable of golf ball sized groups at 50m using bulk ammo.

Rebuilt mine
Volquartsen full front end with cantilever mount on barrel
KIDD trigger( from the parts drawer) , factory one stunk
Magpul rear stock
Vq bolt because I had one and it was needed

Fun little plinker. Fun to tinker with and mod. If you want a target grade rifle this isn't it but if shooting cans at the cottage is your thing this is a good choice.
They seam to hold zero. Lots of videos on you tube about 10/22 TD's.

I like mine and seems to hold zero. For sure it's not a bench rest gun but that not the purpose.

Super handy and light to toss in the bag. Mine is well built.

Ya what he said...Love mine... Great out to maybe 50m and starts to spread out a bit. (ammo sensitive)
Another fun gun is the PCC 9mm Ruger TD.

I enjoyed mine. I had a stainless in a magpul backpacker stock for my wife and I have a lite in the same backpacker stock. Enjoy them both but just sold the wifes off. She moved up to 556 now. I kept mine for cheap plinking and teaching. Both held zero just fine for the limited use. Lite doesnt have iron sights, just a warning. I put a vortex venom on mine. Nice and low profile. Regular model has irons. Both TDs had some issues eating cheap ammo like bulk federal, winchester wildcats etc. I fed mine primarily CCI minimag and AR tactical without issue though.

I have two, and I am re-thinking the sights. The best barrels have an integral cantilever mount for a good reason I think.

Apart from the accuracy issue, and I find mine are noticeable less accurate than the fixed barrel versions, they are a useful rifle to have.

Both of mine have been re-stocked, and modified triggers. A hike / camp favourite, and is always in the truck when in the bush

I'm looking to go ahead with a 9" barrel version in a backpacker stock to see if that has the edge. It's a shame you cannot retro fit any 10/22 into a breakdown, but thats the way they sell them? Not a great selection of after-market barrels available and the prices are steep.

Still worthwhile having one in the collection.

Candocad.

I have one. Totally original and carries an el cheapo Tasco red dot. It is mostly my tractor/combine gun. Minute of skunk is all I require of it. I like the ease of assembly and takedown, and the sturdy bag. Lots of room for extras in the bag. I have other rimfires that I can take to the Olympics.

One thing that should be noted: RTFM!!!!! The initial setting of the lock nut is very important. (Yes, I was lucky. I actually read the manual first!)

Mine's great, always ready to go play. Set the tension properly, and they're pretty accurate and repeatable. I have a Dlask bolt, Hogue stock and BX trigger with Kidd pins on mine and it's as accurate as any light contour 22 I've ever shot.

As a huge fan of 10/22 I might be a little bit bias but its a fantastic little take down. I have the Magpul Backpacker version and it blows the Henry AR7 and Marlin Papoose out of the water. Super reliable, takedown is a breeze, and holds it zero. I'm running a Busnell TRS-25 on the Magpul barrel rail.

picked on up on sale a few years back from Sail.... yeah I know never bought anything firearms there except the price was actually good.

Anyways when I first got it I thought it was just me being a new shooter that I was a terrible shot with the rifle, then after a bit I realized it was the rifle. I could not consistently hit even the board I was pinning a target to at 50m...… Was about to dump the rifle as a junker when I decided maybe its the iron sights and went to put the scope rail on top, I then noticed just how far off in alignment the front and rear sights were plus there was a fair wobble between front and back attachments. Sent for Warranty service and Wow! did Snapshot ever refurbish my rifle, tight fitting to the stock new receiver and barrel that shoots nice groups at 100m. Whatever they did at snapshot made my couldn't hit the barn door 10/22 into a real keeper. Deep down I think all Ruger products should come with a nice bag like the take down 22lr does......PC-Carbine i'm looking at you.

My 10/22 takedown is one of the few rifles I'll actually store in pieces (I never had much luck with quick assembly/disassembly of my Norinco copy of the Browning .22 takedown autoloader).... :yingyang:

I keep my Ruger stored in its bag, alongside a cheap 3-9x scope on UTG quick-detach rings. It's zeroed to 50 yards and works well enough on the receiver rail...

Honestly, I don't own a Ruger but I've shot quite a few unmodified Ruger 10/22 stock rifles.

All of them had cycling issues and accuracy wasn't great either. Some of the issues were certainly owner/user induced but then for the price of the 10/22 I feel they should be doing better aside initial fit and finish.

A JW-20 is half the price. One can get two for the price of a 10/22 take-down and you won't be sad when one is bouncing around in a backpack receiving it's bruises. Most of them when cleaned up properly will cycle everything from CCI Quiets to Aguila Interceptors.
