I have a 10/22 takedown, with a Volquartsen extractor, and like the title says, it falls out every once and a while. I have changed this before on a few 22's I have had over the years, so I know its not installed incorrectly. If I have to buy a new one its no big deal, but I would like to avoid this if possible. Anyone have any advice for me how to fix this problem.

Thanks in advance for any answers..

So, it's physically impossible for the extractor of a 10/22 to fall out. Something is very broken on your gun and/or it is installed completely wrong.

Blastattack is right, it is incredibly difficult to even remove the extractor with tools, let alone it falling out by itself. I would check the housing on the bolt, as well as the extractor itself, to see if there is anything broken or missing. Hopefully you can figure this out and find a solution.

Thanks, I was hoping not to hear that. The housing for the extractor pin is inside the bolt, however I don't know how to check that out myself. I guess it would be easier to buy a new bolt and extractor and hope it works. I have been searching for info for a few days, and there is not one article out there about this issue. I might have bought a used lemon..

None of that makes any sense. There is no housing or extractor pin on a 10/22. Take a picture and post it please. What you describe can't be possible.

I was just using the term "housing" because I can't think of what else to call the slot that the extractor fits into. I think Daumer is referring to the plunger when he says extractor pin. The little piece on the end of the spring that pushes on the extractor claw.

I'm struggling with the proper gun related words to use.

What happens is this, my 10/22 is unloaded and cleaned, and there is no mag in it. I use my auto bolt release to test that things are working properly, and 1/20 times I do this the extractor claw, spring and plunger come flying out of it and end up on the floor. I know for sure that they are installed properly. So my question is, why does this happen? And what can I don't fix the problem??

Thanks for all the help.

Could you provide some pictures of the extractor claw and maybe the slot in the bolt as well? I haven't had this issue with my 10/22, but someone on here might have had the same experience and pictures usually help with diagnosis of the problem.

Every time I git a hankering to own one of these tarded guns a thread like this comes along.
Hope you get it figured out and post the results on here.

Is this rifle new to you or bought new from the store? How long have you had it? Just asking as I'm wondering if it was modified by someone or if it came defective and needs a warranty exchange for the bolt.

Some things that come to mind are a worn extractor, worn or damaged channel that the extractor sits in, short/weak spring, or the bold needs to be removed and cleaned including the extractor channel as dirt might be binding things up so the extractor loses tension and falls out.

A bit of a fishing trip but you might find the cleaning helps and it's easy enough.

I saw that one last night, think I'm gonna order it tomorrow. Either way it's not a bad idea to upgrade my toy a little bit.

New dlask bolt, and charging handle, with rubber bolt stops. That should solve my extractor problems and make her a lot more reliable and accurate. Soon a trigger assembly..

I appreciate all the help for a $20 part, when I get a chance I'll post some pics..
