10/22 TD - The next best thing or just a novelty?

There should be enough 10/22 takedown rifles out there to get some solid feedback... Are they worth the money or are they just a hiccup in the history of the Ruger 10/22? I read reviews both good and bad about this rifle but are they really worth it?
It seems like there isn't much aftermarket accessories for them and that's one point against me getting one but are the aftermarket manufactures just waiting to see how well it works? Although I haven't fired one I have handled one and I looks like it has potential to be quite an interesting little customize-able rimfire. I already own a 10/22 and have first hand experience of a few minor issues in regards to FTF with non-Ruger mags.
So my question goes out to owners who have put them to the test/osed and abused them, what are the overall impressions of the Ruger 10/22 Takedown rifle?

Next time I'd buy a folding stock and skip the take down. Pretty sure mine is an OOPS, since the barrel started to mushroom around the chamber with only a few hundred through it. makes it a :bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug::bigHug: to take down, and then only goes back together aftersanding/filing it down. The first time it did that, I phooked up the ratchet mechanism trying to get it apart Seems there might have been a batch that didn't get hardened properly or some BS. Ruger's waranty dept. Has a $h!t reputation, and is in Kebecistan to boot. No way I'm buying frustration by sending it there. So, I sit and wait for a nice short, light aftermarket barrel for it, and a folding stock. THEN it will be convenient. For now its a safe queen that comes apart, and stows in a bag thats big enough that you might as well not have bothered, but still can't seem to accept an optic without leaving it very vulnerable. So I'm sorry I bought it, but really only because it's a lemon, which left a sour taste in my mouth. Otherwise, its still a Ruger 10/22, and it would seem that I have a preference for them <Looks in Safe, Shakes Head>.

My TD is still pretty new. I've had fun doing some plinking with it and I love the size when taken down. I don't have any complaints about the build. I do worry about accessories. I would like to put a scope on it but haven't found a good solution for it. I'm a little surprised that Ruger isn't recommending a suitable range of products that wold work in the bag and with the take down mechanism.
 
There are a crap load of accessories for the TD. Start by putting on a Promag aluminum barrel band http://www.amazon.com/ProMag-Ruger-Carbine-Tactical-Barrel/dp/B003BAAJVG . Optics? Scope selection? Google 10/22 Takedown and scope. Some use meduim Warne QD rings matched up with a 2 to 7 or 3 to 9. Just watch the length.

Novelty? The TD is currently the top SHTF rifle out there for packing and travelling light.
 
No offense, I'm new to this and still figuring things out.

It looks like the issue is the limited selection of scopes available in Canada that are short enough to not be damaged by keeping them on the rifle in the bag. I have searched this a bit and many people just seem to live with the end of the scope being sitting at the bottom of the carrying case. I haven't seen any conclusive recommendation saying "Hey great scope and it fits the TD perfectly without fear of damaging the optics when you drop the bag!" . Mostly it seems like a bunch of compromises - ie use quick release rings or deal with the extended end of the optics.

If you know better, let me know, I'm truly interested in a good solution for my takedown.

I don't view the QD rings as a compromise. I like the fact that the scope can come off immediately if required. The interior pockets in the bag can easily accommodate a scope on its own -- which is exactly what the pockets were designed to do.
 
I still have mine after shooting about 700 rounds, haven't had a problem with it. Just installed tech sights on it and replaced the stock with one I found from an airsoft 10/22 because I wanted one that accepted ar grips and stocks.
