10/22 Tips & Tricks

Hey,
Wondering if anyone has suggestions on ammo for my 10/22. I've heard that CCI standard velocity are great quality, but I find my rifle won't cycle the rounds reliably, especially in cold weather. I was thinking about trying some CCI mini mags, hoping that the FPS is the problem. CCI standard velocity only carry 1070 fps.
Any tips would be appreciated.

I have a few 10/22's and they all run American Eagle solid point (40gr?)with few to no problems plus I find the accuracy just about as good/better than CCI standards.

Newer rifle? My 10/22 is almost 20 years old and it cycles anything I throw in it. Maybe yours is still in the break-in period?

The standard spring in any 10/22 isnt designed for subsonic ammo. Buy an after market spring for subsonic ammo and put in a bolt buffer. Youll have reliable function and much quieter as well as saving your receiver a beating. If your after top accuracy nothing over 1080 beyond 75 yards is gonna be your friend. If your only shooting 50 or shorter then its not a big deal!!

Alright thanks for the advice. I actually have a subsonic spring so I will try that.

I've modded one of my 10-22s. It was a "deluxe". Now has a .920 barrel with a loctited slide-fit bloop tube turned out of leaded steel and cold-blued. Drilled a hole in the back of the receiver so the rifle can be cleaned from the breech with a rod, not mangling the rifling at the muzzle. Now to clean the bore the barreled action comes out of the stock, trigger group comes out, and a long Dewars cleaning rod does the thing. The hole in the receiver also acts as a rod guide.. When I was in NZ I had the muzzle drilled and tapped to accept an adapter that lets one screw on a suppressor - don't really use the adapter and sold the suppressor before I came back to Canada. polished sear. modified the bolt release. (Now, of course, the 10-22 is banned in NZ along with anything that holds more than 5 rounds.)
