Hey all, I am looking seriously at purchasing the famous 10/22.

The problem I have is the trigger. Simply put it is ugly out of the box. I have done some research on the net and I have found many after market triggers for around or over the $100 mark.

My question is, is there anything a guy can do at home to the factory triggers to improve them.

You need only replace the hammer to reduce trigger pull from 6 - 9 lb. to ~2 3/4 lb.
Volquartsen or Power Custom hammers will do that.

There are several such common mods done on 10/22s - read rimfirecentral.com and others.

I just polished the hammer and sear on a NIB 10-22. I was amazed how tight all the pins and stuff were over the others that I've tweaked. In under 5 min I had a 4lb trigger that was much better than stock. It may not have been as slick as the drop in units, but it was FREE!!!

I've always thought that if I screwed it up, I'd just buy a drop in after all.
With a lot more work, I've got mine to 2.5lb and it has never given me grief in all the time I've fired it.
