Odd issue started occuring with my 10/22 RR; the thing fed/fired/extracted perfectly, but then the spent cases started to get lodged sideways in the chamber, blocking the bolt. Anyone encounter something similar?

My Guess: I took hold of the stock and things were a little bit shaky; I tightened the "mating" screw and the wobble is now gone, so hopefully that was it. I'm ecstatic that this rifle loved the Federal 525-packs...

Spray the heck out of the extractor area with w/e aerosol cleaner you use and DO NOT oil it after otherwise it will be a magnet for crud. Make sure the chamber is clean aswell. I decided to do this before I installed a new extractor and the gun worked perfectly afterwards, I haven't seen the need to replace it as of yet.

Sometimes the chambers can be so tight that the slightest bit of dirt causes the spent casing to stick. This is why some .22's when new will not extract properly.

On a .22 semi, the extraction is really blowback and the extractor is primarily for extraction of an unfired shell, and the ultimate ejection. If the spent casing sticks even slightly the extractor will not hold it and eject it.

Try removing the barrel, and putting a brass brush on a cordless drill. use a little polishing compound and at a reasonable speed, polish the chamber. I do this with my cowboy guns for faster reloading on the clock.

If it still causes issues, have a gunsmith ream the chamber with a .22 reamer. Your problem should be solved regardless of the extractor.

+1 on this one! Make sure to use a teflon based lubricant that dries completely soon after application. A lubricant such as this will allow for super smooth operation of your 10/22 action, without adding a lubricant that attracts burnt powder or dirt like most oil based lubes will. I bought one about 3 weeks ago and after the 4th outing, mine was doing the same thing, got some teflon based fast drying lube and sprayed 'er up, haven't had one jam since! After the first application you should be able to :sniper: anything you want without jamming!

I have those same Valu-paks...I'm thinking theres a waxy substance on the bullet heads? I was having fail to extract issues only AFTER using this ammo in my 10/22. When I was using the Remington cyclones my only problems were fail to fires :(

Just clean the heck out of it! Mine does that same thing, once it starts getting dirty ( a few hundred rounds) clean her up, and she's good to go....Or just put it down and pull out my .17!!!

I never hit up the gravel pit without my can of teflon based dri-lube. Gotta give a shot now and then but it beats jams and what not.

I don't know the mechanics of it, but I have that the trigger pull affects this on the 10/22. If you only pull far enough to engage, then come off, it will do this from time to time. So, I guess you have to pull fully through.

But all the cleaning suggestions are good too.

You never said if you were using a factory clip or not? Some times the high capacity clips "GALL UP".The strait plastic lips are bad.You start getting little lumps along the lips which slow the bolt down when cycling. It is usually worse on the backstroke because you are working against spring pressure.Take a pocket knife or a file and scrape the lips smooth. This might help you somewhat.Another problem with the big cap-clips and old guns is that the magazine well and the button that hold the clip get worn and sloppy.I have seen guys wiggle their clips back and forth 1/4 inch or so.This does cause ejection and feeding problems.Always use your hand to pull back on the clip and they will work better....Well thats my 2 cents worth and you got whether you like it or not...

I have this problem with the Remington cheapo ammo too but a higher velocity ammo like Yellowjackets cycles with no problems. I always assumed it was the ammo, maybe it is a cleaning issue but I'm just sticking to the better stuff anyways and then I won't have to worry about it.
