So I've been debating on getting a 10/22 for some time now, but I have a feeling I won't enjoy the gun without a few hundred dollars of accessories on it. Opinions on that?
these failures you speak of..... are you sure that isnt just the ammo?
cause lord knows 22 ammo is not very reliable.
and if i might make a suggestion to you, as a fella 10/22 kool-aid drinker and bug out theory follower i would suggest this, and its a $5 suggestion to keep in line with your keep it cheap upgrades.
the bolt buffer you picked up is good BUT and i only say this because you mentioned bug out rifle, those solid rubber bolt buffers are a PITA to get in and out especially in the field with no or limited tools.... if i might make a suggestion, Kidd bolt buffer, its a 2 piece deal, has a metal pin inner and a rubber outer sleeve, gives you the best of both worlds, gives you the rubber bolt buffer that makes shooting smoother and less 'clangy' and it is uber easy to pop in and out.
those rubber bolt buffers are my nemesis, i seem to always have to use pliers to get them in and out, real pain. Just mentioning it since you dropped the bug out set up.
well that and i think they are far better.
and for the same price its a no brainer.
also, still on the bug out lines here, i like your sticking with open sites, i did the same with my bug out gun, but i also put a old 4x9 scope on a one piece mount in my bag as well. some times its nice to plop the scope on there and have the added bonus of making your first shot your best shot.
end of days bug out bag theory speaking.
Trs -25 red dot is awesome but not what your looking for.
The pws mag release is wicked. I hope youve read about the diy autobolt release. Super simple. I didnt do it for two month after getting the gun. Silly I waited that long to do it.
The bolt buffer helps alot!

my original 10/22 i got when i was 12 and i shot it stock with NO UPGRADES for 28 years and LOVED IT!
ill bet that gun has over 100k rounds down the pipe.
flawless gun.
i rarely if ever cleaned it too.
the gun is a TANK!
i didnt get into customizing and adding on stuff until i was older and needed an excuse to get away from my wife and daughters!
no, just kidding, i didnt get into all the add on's and building until i had lots of money to burn and lots of free time to shoot and play.
as far as im concerned the gun is fantastic out of the box and extraordinary once upgraded.
i even picked up a stock 10/22 for my daughters last year.
i did put it on a Hogue stock because i had an extra one laying around and i did put fiber optic sites on it because i wanted to try them out myself and my girls like FO sites. i dont plan on doing anything to that gun and my girls like it the way it is.
