I've been looking at the 10/22 and am torn between just getting a 10/22 and spending the extra bit of coin to get a 10/22 takedown for easy transport on my motorcycle. Anyone have any input?

Seems like a gimmik
Question to you guys who have them. What amount of time is your rifle actually taken down?
My guess is even taken to the range, you put the rifle, full size in tge case.
My guess is you rearly take it down.
I could be totally wrong.
I had the SU22 which folds. However I can count on one hand how many times I used the feature.

I'm with you on this one. I never really understood the takedown concept. I guess if you were backpacking? I'm just not sure if I could justify the extra cost.

OP asked about it for motorcycle transport. That's a perfect solution.

For range use? Maybe not. Hiking into plinking areas off the beaten path? Maybe.

Depends on your use. Take down designs were originally intends for pilots in remote regions correct? That's the story I heard somewhere.

I bought mine for backpacking/survival but it sees lots of range use too. It's great.

Easier to clean the barrel if nothing else.

im going to have to pick one up to add to my stable just so i can play with it a little.
but ya, once the novelty of it passes it will probably never get taken down.

Mine is sitting in my range bag right now. Bag is 17" long. Reciever on one side of the bag, barrel on the other. I have never taken it to the range in a full size bag. I would if the circumstances warranted but I can take it along with pistol, ammo etc in just one bag. Very convenient for me.

Also I worked my way through a very crappy box of Remington 22s and removed the barrel a number of times to either insert or remove a finicky round or to ensure the barrel was clear.

LOVE THE TAKEDOWN

NOT a fan of those remmy 22s though....

Edit: A friend has one too and he uses the bag it came in to transport to the range. A 20" bag over your shoulder is a fair bit more discreet than a full size case if you're just taking 1-2 guns for a plinking session.

I bet it's a breeze to clean. That would be a plus for sure. Does it maintain zero?

I dont own a take down but the regular 10/22. first time i went to clean it, couldnt use my clean rod. At least not from the correct direction. Had to order a bore snake. With the take down a cleaning rod would be easy so another bonus on top.

I have a 10/22TD and like it, except that I seem to not have great luck keeping my scope zero'd. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe I'm messing with the tension dial on the take down mechanism too much. I just wish that Ruger would come up with a cost-effective way to mount optics right on the OEM barrel instead of the receiver. I like the Volquartsen and Adaptive Tactical 10/22 TD barrels, but they are WAY too expensive.

Neat, I'll probably go look around at the local shops to see if anyone has one on the shelf and see how they feel. Anyone have experience with how they keep zero?

I have two SS Takedowns and they keep perfect zero and they are taken down and put back together a lot... no issues. ... Oh BTW if u do get a 10/22 buy a KIDD or Volquartsen extractor right away and you'll have zero issues....

The factory irons are both mounted on the barrel so no issues with maintaining zero. I switched to aftermarket sights, the rear being a peep sight mounted on the receiver. I've not been able to find any changes to zero with this either. Haven't mounted a scope so can't speak to that.

I run the Scorpion Optics 3-9 compact on one and it fits perfectly on the rifle in the bag. It's really not a bad piece of kit as far as optics go in the $100 price range.. here's a few pics of it in its case sporting it's Scorpion optics.
