10/22 vs 597 question

So which would you pick and why? Both are around the same price and look somewhat similar, the 597 is in 22lr and the 10/22 in 22mag.
 
not fair! you are comparing 22lr and 22 mag. I have 597 simply because that was within arm's reach in a store. I never regretted the purchase, one helluva fun rifle, nice stock. It comes with rail installed as well. Can't say anythign about 10/22, other than its barrel is a bit heavier, but thats not a big deal. Why is there a question? By them both!
 
I would pick the one in the caliber that I wanted.


BTW, the Ruger looks nice...from that angle. Check out the rest of the stock. If you paid me enough, I might take it.

It might be cheaper to get the entry level 597 and order one of those stocks from the States same goes for the 10/22. Isn't the 10/22 just the target vesion basically? The down side is waiting for the stock to be shipped.
 
there are lots of those yellow jacket, and other coloured stock on ebay all the time. theres a nice grey/black one on every week.

I'd just buy the 597 in a heavy barrel, and then order one of the stocks. That way if you ever wanted to take the 22 out on the farm and not have to worry about your fancy stock because you also have the spare one.
