I'm looking for a rimfire that can take a drum mag (hey, if one shot is fun, 50 is, like, at least 49x as fun), and from the looks of it, my two choices are the Ruger 10/22 and the Pietta PPS-50. And it has to be just a little tacticool. :)

Marstar has a way tacticool PPS-50 kit with a drum mag for $600

I love the look, but it's a lot of bones for a .22

On the other hand, a decent used Ruger 10/22 for $200
+ this fairly nice dress up kit for $100

Plus a Black Dog drum mag for $100... comes in at $400.
$200 cheaper (or more if you add taxes), though I like the look of the Pietta better. I don't know if the Pietta is a better gun or not, I'm assuming they are both about equal, though the base Pietta is $450, so maybe I'm wrong and it's a much higher quality, which would influence my decision.

Anyway, what would you guys pick?
And if there was no price difference, would it be the same?
Thanks!

I have a Pietta and a 10/22, and I personally had alot of issues with my pps50 when I first took it out, the stick mag would not feed at all and neither would the drum mag, I had to file the magwell portion of the stock down so the mag would sit higher up it could then scoop up and chamber a round, that being said now I can take it out and pound 30 rnds out of it and not skip a beat.Although my drum mag has been nothing but problems and I use it only as a paper weight.
The Pietta seems to work quite well after initial break in I find.

I can't speak for a drum mag in a 10/22 as I don't own one, but the amount of aftermarket support for the 10/22 is second to none. I just turned my 10/22 into a pretty nice copy of an aks74u totally non retricted I might add too!
In terms of taking apart and cleaning, I think the Ruger is a little easier than the Pietta
others my say different, the Pietta can be a little tricky the first couple of times you take her apart, but after that it's a breeze.
I'd vote for the 10/22 but the Pietta PPS50 is a great gun don't get me wrong, and for what it seems like you're after the Pietta combo is going to be cheaper when you factor in shipping and taxes on setting up a 10/22 in the same manner(finding a used one, getting the stock kit and drum mag etc).Atleast with the PPS50 you just have to order it, get it, shoot it, love it. :)
Cheers

I have a couple Ruger 10/22's, they are popular for a reason. I have looked at the pietta, I really liked the old school wood stock one...but without an easy loader, the 50 round drums are a pain in the arse.

Just my opinion however.

Thanks for the info Drew. Most of my want for the PPS is the drum mag (which totally makes it for me in terms of both look and function). So if the black dog drum is a dud, I'll probably get the Ruger for now, and then wait till a used PPS-50 comes through the EE section. If you ever decide to sell yours, PM me first! :)

go with the ruger, i had mine for years with no issues, plus you can get the same drum for the ruger, just need the one with the right tower, i have it and with no issues running with my 10/22
