10/22 vs remington 597 vs savage 22

10/22

my vote is the 10/22.
i must say i have never tried the 597 but have tried at least 3 10/22's and i love this gun.it's not very accurate but with FACTORY mags they are utterly reliable until u get to 400-500 rounds.stay away from the 64B cooey/winchester/lakefield/mossberg/sears/savage or any other incarnation unless u like smashing the stock against a tree.they are good for 200-250 rounds(from clean) and are way more accurate than the 10/22 but will jam...jam...jam...get the oldest used 10/22 u can as the oldies are the goodies...

Two things:

Ren made a good comment about the 597 potentially being less easy to strip; it seems to be characteristic of several Remington .22's. Then again, there may be less need to strip-down Remingtons...

ilovepotatos, just curious - what was the FPS on that .177?

Have any of you ever delt with remington ? I have, and they could give a sh*t about people who buy there products. Ruger all the way !!!

Methinks if Ruger cared about their customers they would have muzzled the late Ruger SR. before he got on national TV:

Aside from his million dollar donation to the NRA Museum, William B. Ruger, Senior, should be remembered as the man who embraced the investment casting process very early on, and whose Pine Tree is one of the most respected investment casting enterprises in the world, the man who gave us the Mini-14, the 10/22 and the first American-made production firearm chambered in 7.62 X 39mm... and the man who told NBC News' Tom Brokaw that:

* "No honest man needs more than 10 rounds in any gun."
* "I never meant for simple civilians to have my 20 or 30 round magazines or my folding stock."
* "I see nothing wrong with waiting periods."

And, sadly, that too must be part of the Ruger legacy.

Not to mention they would build a .22 rifle that could shoot well out of the box without the need to modify the crap out of it.
Also for the record none of the American firearms companies care about Canadian customers.

And, let us not forget Remington's stand after that latest firearms turncoat...

Btw, it seems that Remington's shoddy treatment towards Canadians has changed, but don't quote me on that...

We may see Remington's product importation come to an end...there is a law thats coming into effect at the end of the year where all guns will be import marked. Remington might not find the sales adequete to put the bull#### through.

Probably not, but its a possibility...

for a truck gun,you'd want a clip,I would think-see a grouse,you want to stop,load and shoot-not mess arround with tube magazine

I would say the 10/22 is the way to go, but I'm biased and like to have a good gun that shoots accurately so my 10/22 has been extensively modded. You could go for a 50 BMG and you will only have to get the bullet going by near the head to decapitate it. No muss, no fuss.

Ruger.

If you do not like it you can usually sell them for what you paid for it, but you will like it. Mine is unmodified and shoots dimes and shotgun hulls at 25 yards with cheap ammo.

Remington may have said they don't care about aour (admittedly smallish) market...but at least they didn't actively f**k over shooters like Bill Ruger did.

So...in your "guncase of purity"....any rugers?

How did that statement affect us ? It didnt. Its just some old bugger that doesnt know sh*t. And Remington "DOESNT" care about our market, get it right or don't post !

Bill Ruger is dead. Wrong Way should do some research on his motives for his comments. Was it him trying to screw gun owners or was it damage control after his products were used in a mass murder?

That works both ways, maybe the rem comment was off the cuff and doesn't reflect their position now...
