10/22 woes continue

That's very strange.... I've got two of those horrible 10.22's and they are arguably the two most reliable and fun rifles I own...

Haven't been following all your woes on this one. Was the bolt cleaned of any grease or gunge that would prevent the pin from moving fully forward? If so, and it still doesn't work, then I'd just ship 'er back. No need to be screwing around with that kind of stuff. Tell 'em you want one that wasn't made on a Monday morning.

I agree try taking it back I've had 2 that functioned flawless and one that won't took alot of fiddling to make the dud work better . afriend had a marlin and had problems . my 597 has been great but other people have had problems. some are good others seem not to function no matter what the brand . one gopher shooting buddy has an old lakefeild that functions flawless to my surprize my dad bought one that doesn't function with any kind of shells. I think they all have problems just that with the 10-22 and the 597 you can buy after market parts to help out and get it going.
 
It was purchased at the Edmonton gun show last year in Oct. from an out of town gun store owner who had a display set up.
I doubt I'd even get a response to any email on returning it. I think the best I can hope for is that Ruger replaces the whole bolt assembly.
 
Rick have you made sure that the chamber is squeaky clean?? Mostly where the case head sits against the rear of the chamber.....maybe there is some crud that is holding the case head up and softening the impact of the firing pin?? Have you tried to polish the firing pin sides and the groove the pin rides in??

Maybe there is a small burr that is holding it back from reaching full force from the hammer..try polishing it...
 
I think you should sell it as is to me for a rediculously low price;), and make it my problem. If not, have you taken the bolt completely apart, I found a wad of packing grease in the firing pin channel of the bolt on one of mine stopping it from going all the way forward. Clean and relube and that might fix it up. Buffer and 1 coil off main spring may help also, trying buffer and then 1 coil if needed.
