10.5" AR what would you use for a muzzle device?

I tried the vg6 gamma with the blast diffuser and while it proved to reduce barrel rise and recoil to just about nothing, the blast from it is rather fierce. I've never had a firearm make my front teeth ache.

I'll use the gamma on a longer barrel upper I'm building as well.

So what would you guys use? I've debated a standard flash hider but want some real world input. American sources are nice but finding some of these things in Canada is quite the challenge.

Most American sources will offer the same insight.
For short barrels I always use a flash hider and strictly for go any kind of brake/comp for the exact reasons you said.
On mine, I'm still using an AAC blackout flash hider. Works great, no excessive blast unless you're doing barricade shooting which you're going to get regardless. Some complain that the 3 prongs ring but I've never found it to be of any issue.

Other than that, id recommend the Surefire SF3P. I use it on a 14.5" barrel but the concept is the same.

If all else fails, there's absolutely nothing wrong with a good ol A2
 
Have you looked at the Alberta Tactical Rifle supply flash eliminator? They work really good and completely kills any flash and also projects the sound forward kinda like a Noveake flaming pig. I had one on a 10.5” Norinco. I bought another one for a 300 blackout build and accidentally ordered a 1/2”x28TPI so it won’t work for me. It’s brand new and on the EE now for half the price of a new one.

It’s kinda like the flaming pig. It fits right under a black 11” Troy Alpha rail with squid grips by about a 1/2”and then looks integrally suppressed. A fun set up for sure.
 
I tend to keep it simple. I've found that the S & J Hardware linear brake works for me. Inexpensive and readily available from a well established sponsor.
 
Some form of linear compensator. Perhaps a HERA-ARMS Like these ones here, Make shooting a shorty very pleasant.

i just recently put my first 100 rounds through a Smith Enterprise Vortex G6A4 flash hider on a 10 inch 5.56 and i have to say it works very very well. Haven't shot it prone yet but i'd imagine that it would kick up some dust if that is an issue for you
 
I'm looking forward to my Manticore Arms Afterburner Linear Compensator that should arrive next month. It's going on my 8.5"
 
I've got an 11.5" upper and a closed tine Surefire Warcomp on the way, curious to see how well that's gonna work. If it's too blasty I've got a Warden to chuck on it.
 
On my 10.5" I have the Surefire Socom. It is blasty. In indoor ranges, you won't feel the blast yourself as much as the ones standing on your side. The Surefire Warden/blast diffuser will definitely reduce the noise by forwarding the blast forward. Takes no time to install and remove, besides the nice Tacti-look
 
I currently have sf3p because i wanted to try the warden, didn't like the warden much but i kept the 3p. I would be tempted to try the warcomp....

If you want to save some cash just keep an a2 on there, nothing wrong with them.

I just don't like brakes but a lot of people seem to like them.
 
I like the Surefire SF3P or Vortex G6A2 for flash suppression, pretty hard to beat. I have used them under nods and there is no effect to my night vision using them. Also have seen video of me in a line completing a VSR drill and there is zero muzzle flash from me, can't even tell I'm there, lol.
If you are looking for some sort of brake I'd try the Surefire Warcomp. If it hides flash as well as the SF3P and also serves as a brake then it's definitely a win - win.
