Picked up one of these pieces of Hammer-Forged Goodness. Now I am all excited to build a shorty.....

BUT, How do you decide what to do with it??? There are to many options.
FSB, No FSB.
7" FF Rail or 9" or maybe 10".
DD RIS MK18, KAC, Troy, Etc.

Any advantage to having a FSB?

Or just go with a Low-Pro Gas Block and throw on a long FF Rail?

Any Advice?

Range use only - unless it is better I pretend to be high-speed to keep up my image here on the 'Net'
 
DD MK18 RIS, X300 @ 12 o-clock, flip up front sight behind it, flip up rear, aimpoint T1 in a larue/adm/kac mount, and whatever muzzle device is flavor of the week.
 
With a couple of DD vendors on the board, I'll probably build a DD MK18 upper using DD parts.Remember its LAV approved :)
 
lo-pro all the way with a free-float rail to cover it all up!

10.5" LMT Defender
Larue 9.0 rail (10.0 would be tight but would work well i think)

I used to have a 10.5" LMT and a DD Omega, but I couldn't find a good way to mount a light.

I switched to this recently. Novekse 10.5" CHF N4 upper. DD RIS II Mk18 rail, X300 at 12:00, LMT front fixed, Troy rear, Aimpoint T-1. The FSB was shaved and finished by ARWEN ACE.

Get as much rail as you can on there. A fixed front sight takes up less rail space than a collapsible, and I don't find it gets in the way. The light is already there, and I was used to a fixed FSB from my last gun.

I have a Troy Lo-Pro and Spikes Micro.
The Spikes is a little thicker and has a nicer finish than the Troy. It slides on easy and spins around on the Barrel.
The Troy on the other hand Slides on snug and stays there.

Not sure if that means anything. (besides one being a few thou. smaller diameter.)

Is Spikes really that Micro when it is bigger than the Troy unit :)

I like DD and the KAC product..... but both have alot of $$$$ attached to it. (says the guy that just spent $400+ on a Barrel)
 
I am also looking at doing a shorty build (10.5" or less) and have a line on a YHM mid-length handguard. I would like to use a low profile gas block, but not sure if that length handguard will completely cover the gas block. It is supposedly 9.2" long. Has anyone have any experience with this type of setup?

I have 13" TRX Extreme for an 18" SPR (style) I am putting together.
Very nice stuff this Troy product.

I thought about doing a 9" or even an 11" TRX, but I would need something like the ATRS flash Eliminator to make sure it cleared the rail.
