10 ga lead

Good Luck! It is hard to come by now. Everything is steel.

Reloading seems to be the best bet.

I only have a couple of boxes left and I'll be out of luck. Might have to get another MEC.
 
Winchester still offers a copper-plated lead 10 ga Turkey load ( 3-1/2" 4's & 5's )
Not aware of anything like that from Remington or Federal, although Federal still
offers 10 ga. buckshot & rifled slugs.

Save your nickels and order in a few cases of Winchester
... these may disappear shortly too !
 
When lead was determined to be no longer legal, I ended up with some still on hand. Five boxes of Federal Premium 10ga 3 1/2", 2oz Copper Plated #4's and one box of Remington 10ga 3 1/2", 2oz's of #2's. Although it's been a while, all I use my 10ga SxS on is waterfowl so I was thinking of possibly getting rid of these six boxes but I'll probably hang on to them until I can get my paws on some bismuth for reloading. I've made inquiries and there's an outfit in Dewinton AB that apparently handles it but I haven't made arrangements to get any, yet.
 
well, this may sound a bit overkill, i just wanted some 4s and 6s to hunt phesent and partrige with. get some more use out of the gun. BBs and @s steel is a bit overkill. ideally id like to find some 6 size lead.

:)It would be for me, especially lugging my SxS around. With the 2 oz Federal Premium #4's I made mention of earlier, great on Ducks. The 2 oz Remington #2's were the result of following a story by "Uncle Elmer", Duces For Gooses;)I believe. My buddy and my handloads were the same size of shot for Ducks and Geese, but the loads were 2 1/4oz. I was always amazed at low level pass shooting over water, once you got on to the lead required at longer ranges, how far out you could regularily/consistently 'reach out and touch something'.

With the way my AYA 10ga. patterns, I'm very reluctant to open up the chokes to allow me to shoot steel. Pardon the pun but that's why I'm planning on "biting the bullet" and go for the pricey bismuth. In reality, I don't do that much waterfowl hunting so what the hell, I'll go for the gold.
 
I'm in the same boat. I picked up an Ibargun 10 Ga. SXS with 4 boxes of shells, 2 lead 2 steel.. Thta lead is some deadly $H!T on crows. 2 1/4 oz. #2 Win. 3 1/2. Deadly on coyotes.
And #4 Remington Nitro Mag. But they just don't last. Pesky buzzards keep thinking they are out of range. Wrong on their part.
If you do manage to find a supply, please be kind enough to post it. as will I.
I may invest in a MEC 10 ga. setup though, tough to find lead. Components are pricey. The best I could find for hulls were Federals from Midsouth Shooters Supply in the States. Will Belozir www.bilozir.net. stocks Ballistic Products here in Alberta. But damn is it expensive.
Screw bismuth, too expensive for me. My gun has been opened to mod./mod. for steel, so I'll go that route. Until I can afford a set of Wad Wizard tubes and the smithing that goes with them.
Anyway,

I was planning on opening up the chokes on mine so I could use steel but as 'sweet' as the patterns are with some old Federal Premium ammo, I just couldn't bring myself to do so:redface:. Expensive, true enough but for the amount of waterfowl shooting I do these days plus the patterns I'm getting, I'm going to opt for Bismuth.
 
i havent had any luck. found the man who is responsible for bringin in the fed ammo , and they do make 10 ga turky loads in lead 4/5/6 still, but he wont bring any in for me, unless its a few cases. so, i have his email addy, if anyone is interested, PM me, and ill send you his email. maybe there is enough interest yet, to get some

A few years abo I contacted their website andhad them sent me their "Handloading Bismuth Shot" and info on the products they handle. I just checked out their site again and got a bit of a shock. Previously they had Bismuth listed @ $79.95 for a 7# jug. Apparently because availability problems, they are now changing over to a product called "Nice Shot". The product may be nice but the 'new' price listed for it sure isn't. $80.64/kg!!! Jeez!!
Question on Hevi-Shot, does anyone use it and if so, can it be used in place of lead in older shotguns without having to alter the chokes?

UPDATE:
I checked closer on their site and Hevi-Shot cannot be used in place of lead in older shotguns without altering the chokes.
