I purchased this gun a few years back and shot it a little, it actually doesn't kick that bad due to it's size.
I know this gun is a spanish made Eibargun Supreme 10 gauge with 3 1/2 inch chambers and 32 inch full choke barrels. Does anybody have any experience with these guns?
What are they worth?

NB444, Eibargun is today known as Lanber. They no longer make SxS's, concentrating instead on U/O's and a couple of models of semi-automatics. Back in the 1970's and early 1980's when they were still making SxS's they were known as economical but soundly built guns. They were exported to Great Britain, Europe and North America with moderate success.

The 10 gauge fowler was popular up until non toxic shot was mandated, and that has proven to be the death of the big gun. Today 10 gauge ammo is virtually exclusively made with steel shot, which is decidedly not compatible with the tightly choked barrels of the Eibargun. Unless you hand load, there is no off - the - shelf compatible ammo available for this gun (except for slugs!).

The gun is a classic Anson & Deeley boxlock, with bolsters on the frame to add strength. Traditional V-springs power the locks. The wood for these guns is never very fancy, rather it is chosen for its tight grain and strength to withstand the recoil. The barrels are well made in the Basque fashion, and usually well regulated. Your example looks to be in reasonably good shape, many suffer scars from the goose pit.

Because of the ammo situation, the value of the 10 bore gun in today's market is very low - about half the price (or less) of a similar 12 gauge. I see them for sale out here for $250 or less.

If you hand load with Nice Shot you will have the most effective goose gun imaginable. Another alternative is to have the chokes opened up to allow the use of steel shot. Because of the nature of the soft soldered barrel ribs the chokes have to be opened quite a bit to ensure safe shooting, and this affects the patterns and effective range. Hand loading is the better route, and you will annoy your hunting partners as you pluck geese out of the sky 10 to 15 yards out of their range.

Federal makes 10 gauge slugs which are compatible with this gun but I have never been able to get them to shoot very accurately, probably because of the chokes. The thing is too heavy to haul around for big game anyway.

In any case, the gun is an interesting addition to any collection and with hand loaded ammo is devastating on big geese.

i had the same gun only in over and under .and shot a lot of geese with it .if i still had it or yours i would have it cut to 24 0r 26 inch and have chokes putin it .and us it with turkey loads .it would make an unblevable turkey gun .nice and short lots of umfff DUTCH

Soooooo, where do I send the cheque?? :D

I haven't hunted geese in years now. I loaned this gun to a friend for one of his hunts, he used #2 steel as I read that it is the largest shot you can use without opening the chokes. He said the gun was useless at short ranges but was unbelievable at long range. I thought I might either open the chokes for steel or put choke tubes in eventually. There are no turkeys where I live (at least the kind you can legally shoot) but I always thought this thing would be a great turkey gun with lead shot.

I have a similiair 10 gauge and it has the chokes opened enough to shoot steel with ease threw here, you could not find another gun that feels as good as this!! If you will take $250 ,please send me 2 of them as I paid more than that for mine a few years ago! Great gun Dale in T-Bay

Based on the Pm's I am getting offering to buy it, it seems that $250 is quite a bit lower than market presently as you say. The 10 is a great turkey and waterfowl gun and that is the only issue I have with it as I am not hunting geese anymore!

I would guess that your 10ga. in the shape it appears to be in would definately be worth more than $250.oo. I took a quick look in the Blue Book of Gun Values but I haven't found it, ;)yet. I have a similar SxS made by AYA and in the Blue Book @ 100% it suggested list is $550.oo and I wouldn't sell mine for that. Actually, this one is the second one I've had and kept it as it has 'decent' wood:). However a search on the Guns America site and I found a listing of $1,295.oo for a 10ga. AYA Matador. I had considered opening up the chokes to enable me to use steel shot but with the tight patterns I get using the old Federal Premium loads I don't really want to touch the chokes. The option I think I'll go for is Bismuth shot, expensive as it is. Ballistic Products INC., through their distributor in Canada can supply that shot as well as other required components and reload info. I've got product and reload info from them and will hopefully get some Bismuth in a couple of sizes before too long. Contact info for that distributor is;

There's another 'possible' source of supply but I can't confirm that, ;)yet:D.

Some of those old 10's still make incredible goose guns. Since full choke is generally .975 on a 10 gauge opening it up to .955 has given us some long range geese with steel shot. Too much risk of splitting the barrels without opening it up or switching to bismuth as you have stated.
Nicer than normal piece of wood on that one.

An AYA Matador and the gun in question are not even in the same league it is a $250-$300 gun on a good day as far as the Blue Book it is a useless for of putting a value on a gun and as far as going to sites with over priced Buy it now prices or high staring bids they also are useless if you look at these sites go to the COMPLETED LISTINGS and see what they have actually sold for or if they have sold at all .

You may well be right, many of the sources of value info could all well be useless but you've got to start with some kind of bench mark. However, the Blue Book is 'accepted' by many as a starting point.
