10 round AR mag, does it have to come from Questar?

First, let me thank everyone for their very kind words.

Getting the 10 round magazine approved was a long and arduous process but one that brought great satisfaction in the end. As a "shooter" myself I know how much it has improved the enjoyment for AR owners.

The CP-LAR15-223-10 magazines are (to my knowledge) the only legally approved 10 round .223/5.56 magazines available for import and/or sale in Canada. They are made specifically for Questar to the specifications reviewed and approved by the RCMP Classifications Section.

Questar makes these magazines available (at dealer pricing) to any legitimate Business Firearms Dealer (licensed retailer) in Canada and we encourage customers to buy from their local dealer. While Questar does offer the magazine for sale on our website, we would prefer that end-users purchase (and support) their local dealer wherever possible. If your local dealer doesn't carry these magazine, ask them to contact us and we'll be happy to send them dealer pricing.

We expect another shipment of magazines within the next few weeks. Normally we keep a substantial supply of this product in stock, however recent volumes were simply larger than anticpated.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused but I can assure you that there are a number of dealers who have them in stock.

Yea totally, you really have improved the quality of shooting in the AR community.

Whats your next legal project? anything on the roll right now, or in the near future, down the road etc?

What's that old saying: "If I tell you I'd have to @#&& you" :)

We have a few "ideas" being worked on... probably won't come to anything but you never know... no point in talking about stuff that might never happen.

When the time is right we'll let everyone know.

After reading Marks posts, I had a look at Rock River Arms website, they have the LAR15 10 round pistol mags for about the same price, but there is no indication that they are labled as LAR15 pistol mags, I think you'd be rolling the dice trying to import these on your own, add to that the shipping, taxes and duties, you're better off buying in Canada.

Now if only Rock River Arms made a pistol version of the LAR-8 (AR-10)...

The magazines sold by Rock River Arms in the US are manufactured as rifle magazines... they are not manufactured for Pistols and not legal for 10 rounds in Canada. They do NOT match the samples on file with the RCMP as the approved version.

Theoretically if someone did manufacture an AR10 pistol, here or in the US one could manufacture 10 round pistol magazines.
The 10 rounders from RRA aren't legal because like mark said they're not for pistols, they're for rifles.

I'm kind of surprised that I haven't seen any ar10 pistols, I mean the recoil would be interesting but I thought by now some mom and pop gunshop outfit in the states would have rigged one up just because.

Actually under Canadian law it's not enough to build a prototype unit and then use that as your basis for a pistol magazine. I don't have the actual wording in front of me but it says something to the effect:

"For use in a handgun generally available in Canada"

Meaning that a custom built one-off wouldn't qualify and magazine for it wouldn't necessarily be classified as 10 round Pistol magazines.

That was one of the conditions we had to meet... to prove that the gun for which the magazines were manufacturerd was indeed generally available in Canada.

If any 10 round magazine is labeled or engraved as an LAR-15 Pistol mag, is it then legal ?

No... you can't take a rifle magazine and engrave it and then say it's a pistol magazine. RCMP require proof that the magazine is in fact manufactured and designed from the start as a "Pistol" magazine... otherwise what you have is a "Prohibited" device.

Thanks for the clarification, Mark. Is it just me, or is the whole damn rulebook purposefully ####ed up so NO ONE knows what the hell to do? ;)

I just picked up several 10 round magazines from wolverinesupplies. they were shipped to me within 4 days of the order. I know Marstar has them as well.
