10 round Lee Enfield mag

The Lee-Enfield and Garand are exempt from the 5 round limit by name in the FA from what I remember.
You may not be able to hunt with 10 rounds, but no problem for target.

thank you. to make it hunt-legal would i somehow block the bottom of it, or would i just load the legal amount into the 10 rd mag?

That is because a Garand is a semi-automatic and there is an actual .303 Lee-Enfield semi-automatic in history that takes the same magazine. For non-restricted firearms that are not semi-automatic (rimfire exempt) the magazine restrictions are in the provincial hunting regulations and the migratory game regulations. That is why a pump action shotgun can only have 3 rounds total for hunting migratory birds but you can have as many as the gun will hold otherwise. I used to shoot skeet at a friend's farm with an 8+1 pump legally.

I go hunting with a 10 round Lee-Enfield every year in Alberta with no problems because in Alberta there is no regulation or law against it.

I would ask, politely, that you please do not butcher a piece of history for no good reason. I am unhappy as it is that my original Vietnam-era Colt AR-15 20 round magazines have f**king rivets as it is.

i would never butcher an unbubbaed milsurp.
Unfortunately this is the most bubbaed sporterized hack of a rifle you could imagine, so no love lost on historical value.

5 round rule is for semi auto centre fire rifles and shotguns.

10 rounds for pistol.

Anything else.....basically unlimited if you want.

You have a bolt, so it's fine. They didn't go over this in your PAL course??

Here in Ontario, there's no problem hunting with a Lee Enfield fully loaded with 10 rnds. in the mag. You may only need 1 (maybe 2) shots to bring down your deer or moose, but if you have a negative encounter with bears or wolves, it's nice having those extra rounds.

do you remember every finite detail on a course you took 20 years ago?
I had a question, i asked the question.
Thank you for the lecture.

There is no federal law limiting magazine capacity in bolt action rifles.

Provincial hunting regs can limit mag capicity. Migratory bird shotguns, for example, are 3 rounds only.

I have never heard of a limit on a bolt action rifle used for hunting. But I am not an expert on all provinces and territories.

My Lee Enfield sporter has a 5 round mag, and I find it a bit easy to handle, carry.

We're not all new to shooting. Those of us middle aged and older from the FAC days or before didn't have to take PAL courses, and there were no mag limits in the good old days. I had a box full of 20 rnd. mags for my AR15, and a 30rnd kit for my SKS. Fun, fun, fun!

Once again, his post suggested he was new to the rifles. No biggie. I still answered his questions.

Check with the authorities in your province on whether there is a magazine limit for hunting. They're the ones who will give you a hard time if you are wrong.

You can get an aftermarket five round magazine for it if you need one. (E.g. I'll trade you one, or p.m. me for details of where you can buy one new. I don't know how much they go for these days.) There are Lee Enfields out there missing their magazines, don't modify yours it is worth too much to somebody.
