I understand the limit of 10 rounds in a handgun in Canada. Let me rephrase that, I understand *that* there is a limit...

Anyway, if I purchase a, say, 15 round clip outside Canada, my understanding is that I cannot import it. My question, finally, is "can I modify it myself, before I get to the border?" Legally, can I? And, physicially, how would I?

I assume it's not as simple as inserting a plug in my 12 gauge.

Thanks.

While technically legal bringing a pinned mag across the border by any means can be tricky. If I were to do it again I'd disassemble the mags, pin the body and bring them across as parts. This thread will get pretty convoluted soon...

Yes, the magazine must be modified prior to importation. CBSA apparently will accept a strategically placed pop rivet. There are other methods, as well. Different magazines might require different methods.
IF you are planning on acquiring the magazine in the US, then US law respecting exports of firearm parts would also be an issue.

CBSA is not going to accept an unaltered magazine body which would hold more than 10 rounds if assembled.

It's possible that buying 10 rounders in the States might be cheap, since the sunset of that Clinton law allows for hi-cap magazines again. Some stores/people might be ditching their 10 rnd mags for a bargain. I don't know for sure though. Last time I needed extra pistol mags, I just ordered them straight from Brownells. Wasn't terribly expensive and they came right to my door.

Definitely a change of topic, but it's not highjacking if it's your own thread, right? =)

Where have all the firearms-related US private sales gone since ebay got so sticky a couple years back? There must be an auction site that took up the slack...
