So my brand new Smith & Wesson M&P9 just arrived today and so far I love the feel of it!:D. Just one problem, my magazine only holds nine rounds. The S&W website says the gun is available in 10 or 17 rounds capacity. I'm guessing that means you either get a 9 round magazine with one in the pipe, or a 16 round magazine with one in the pipe. Or is the one in the pipe not factored in to it? If so, is the 10 round law here in Canada 10 rounds in the magazine or 10 round capacity (magazine plus one in pipe)?

Thanks in advance!

take a paint stir stick and run it up and down your mag a couple of hundred times, then see if 10 fit, won't damage the spring, don't forget to take your mag apart and lightly lube the spring to keep it from rusting eezox is the best

Legally,

Correct me if I am wrong here but I believe it's 10 rnd mag plus one in the chamber.

G17 works that way so do double stack 1911s.

Dizzy posted a decent mag trick. Keeping mags clean and moving well is important.

Just push a little harder for that final round or two. Today, I received some new mags for the G17 and had to do just that ... much tighter spring than the OEMs.

I had a similar problem once with a new Mec Gar mag for a 1911 so I sent it back. They found a piece of the polishing media they use to give their mags that nice finish stuck to the inside of the mag body when they examined it. It was preventing the follower from moving past that point.

For my trouble, they sent me 2 new mags!

Take it to the range and check it out. Meanwhile, keep some tension on that spring with at least 7 rnds in the mag.

Hmmm ok so I managed to jam the last round in but it's in so tight I doubt it would cycle properly. It takes a lot of force to take the round back out.

that's good on MecGar and your vendor.

How do you from and send back to ?? Always looking for a source of good quality and well price 1911 mags in Canada ..

Take the mag apart and check it out. Typically the springs seat under small locator tabs on the base plate. If your spring jumped out of that tab then it may be just tight enough to get into spring bind and that is why it's such a fight to get the last round into hte mag. Or there may be some mold flash on the follower or some other factor that may become obvious when you open up the mag.

Sometimes it's just the spring binding. With the mag fully loaded give it a good bump onto the palm of your hand, this will usually loosen the spring if it's binding. I have had that problem with brand new mags. They usually settle in once you've had them fully loaded a few times.

Jam it full with 10 rounds and let it sit. I have had lots of 10 round M&P, CZ and Glock mags that are very stiff on the 10th round. Time and use will loosen them up.

I have anew Glock in which it is difficult to get #10 in.

I have been meaning to take it apart and see if i can run the bottom of the follower over some sandpaper so it will go down a bit farther.

I thought the same when my Glock 17 mags were new. I really had to work for 9 and 10, didn't think they were going to go in. And wow could it ever send the top round flying when I stripped it off the top.

Stored the mags with 10 rounds for a few weeks. And they are better now.
