I just bought a 10 round MEC-GAR 1911 mag, with intent to use it in my newly acquired Para Ordnance CCW, which has an Officer sized (short grip) frame. The mag has a small protrusion to keep it from being inserted too far into a Government sized 1911, but that comes up about a centimeter short of the butt of this gun.

What are my risks using this mag? Is there a significant chance that I'll damage my gun by shoving it in too far, in normal use? I didn't see it contacting anything that looked fragile when I inserted it, but it's hard to tell. If this is a concern, is there a slip on bumper or something I can get to keep it from going too far?

Thanks for any responses.

I'm no expert but I think guys would tell you that it's not a good idea to use mags without a stopper. There are mag spacers available to do exactly like you suggest (search A&G mag spacers) but they would work best stacked on something like a Chip McCormick Power 10 mag (full plastic spacer to rest against, not just a tab at the back). In your case, you could just use 5min epoxy to glue on a small metal plate that takes up the space between the tab on your mag and the base of the frame.
