I googled 10 round Axis mag. and found a company in Ohio making them. They weld an A.R. mag to an Axis mag to get 10 or 15 round capacities. Would this be legal here in Canada using an A.R. mag? The company doesn't export so we can't buy the mags from them, but I think a project like this would be doable, if it's legal.

Friggin hell now you got me thinking way too much now......an I've got LAR-15 or .50 Beowulf mag on my mind to increase my capacity.

Provided the magazine after modification to fit the Axis STILL holds the same amount it is limited to that would be legal, I think.......

Guess I'm pickin up some LAR-15 and .50 Beowulf magazines soon and starting to tinker

Ten shot Savage Axis magazine already exists, and is sold legally in Canada.

Unfortunately they are on back-order at this time. Also unfortunate that they are so expensive.

To best of my knowledge, those 10 round magazines are only good for the .243, 7mm-08 and .308 caliber rifles.

There are higher capacity .204/.223 magazines available down south but our dumb laws would not have any capacity gained from them.

I want one for .223 and for less $$. Thanks for the link though. Is it legal to unpin a mag if it's modified to fit the Axis, and there for can't be used in an A.R.?

Our rules are based on what the magazines was DESIGNED for originally, you would want to use a LAR-15 or .50 Beowful magazine then repin it so can still only hold 5.9 rounds of .50 or 10.9 rounds of .223 for the LAR-15.

Goofy rules but is what it is.

If anyone has other knowledge by all means do correct me, but I'm going by what I've read on RCMP website and many threads on CGN.

If they will ONLY fit/function in a bolt-action rifle, then there's no law against having them in Canada.

Only semi-auto magazines have the 5 round limit.

Me likey for .308 rifles, just to piss off the anti's. The only scenario I can come up with where 10 rounds in a .308 magazine would save me out hunting is if a grizzly bear was charging me.....

IMO if I can't take out the animal with 5 rounds, my hunting partner should finish the job (and I need to go back to the range for some serious marksmanship practice lol)!

Doesnt the Axis heat up real quick? Thin barrel? 10 rounds at a time will sh*t on your accuracy, no?

It probably would, but a 10 round mag in that kind of rifle (yes, I own one in .308) is useful for a)shooting gophers or prairie dogs, or b) a last ditch attempt to save your life from a charging grizzly (in that case, the more bullets the better)!! At close range, the barrel droop ain't gonna matter!

Those mags will not fit the Savage Axis. They are meant for the Savage short action DBM (4.4" spacing). I own one but certainly didn't pay the prices Northern Republic is charging. That is a huge mark-up. MDT is contemplating on making a Savage Axis LSS chasis. If they do I will happily buy an Axis knowing I can use AI mags.

mdt tac has the ai 223 mags for 49, great company to buy from,
I was in a similar spot a few months ago, and ended up selling the axis to pay for a EE sav10, and saving up for a tac21 chassis and couldn't be happier, got 10 rounds, its more accurate than I am, and alot easier to work on.

But obvioulsy the axis ten rounders are able to be done, and if your more willing to try your hand than I was, Good luck!
I was afraid I would ruin a 50 dollar axis mag, a 50 dollar ai mag, and waste alot of time lol
