100,000 caribou cross the Dempster

Not old news. They did cross the Dempster again this year. I didn't go up so I can't comment on lost animals.

i spoke with some NWT hunters last week and they were not happy about how the youger hunters behave. seems less than last time but still a lot. you wont pay me enough to go there: i want to avoid to be shot at or any of my belongings and i do love caribou meat.

Well, there was an article last week on CBC North where two guys go North to shoot Caribou in a blinding snow storm.
They travel one way 1000kms and only got one Caribou though....
The sight would beholding to see one way or the other...100,000 Caribou

I attached the article more as a good read. No news releases have gone out but there have been some trucks heading south with racks sticking out. Most "recent" herd locations can be seen here: https://www.pcmb.ca/herd

Cool, thanks.

I lived in Yellowknife for many years and worked up in Inuvik/Tuk area as well. Nothing up there like the Porcupine herd but a large herd of caribou is a thing to see, that's for sure.

It is unfortunate that younger 'hunters' (and I use that term sarcastically) and supposed 'stewards of the land' have decided that wanton slaughter is the way to successfully harvest animals.
This hunt/slaughter has also been performed by the Dene in Saskatchewan in 2016 on the Qamanirjuaq herd and back in 2008 eight trucks full of native NWT hunters went through and using ATV's performed quite a slaughter on the Porcupine herd near Eagle Plains.
