Will be pleased to pay $100 finders fee for any information leading to the successful purchase of any Lanchester pistol. You younger members know your way round the Internet much better than me so here is an opportunity to make some easy cash.

The Lanchester was a multi barreled handgun ( two or four barrels ) in rather large calibers which saw limited use by British Officers before the introduction of smokeless powder and reliable large bore semi auto handguns, notably the Colt 1911 .45 and Webley .455 semi auto.

No not at all, I would be very surprized if it was. All I am looking for is the info that will lead to a successful purchase.

I suspect the majority of the WW stock of these would be in the UK, and are likely to be dewats if available. are you looking for a working version?

Here is the much rarer 2 barrel for $6750. Some good history on this family of pistols, The vendors description is as follows:
charles lancaster two barreled pistol ,476 C.F.,cased,circa 1889

This is a Charles Lancaster two barreled pistol in 476 Eley center fire. These are rare and unusual guns to find. Lancaster made two, three, and four barreled pistols. Only a couple of three barrels were made and only a few ( over 200) two barrels were made . There were in the neighborhood of 400 4 barrels made All of the three barreled guns went to India. These were very expensive guns in their time and were sold to very wealthy people. They were considered more reliable than the revolvers available and were mostly sold to officers and aristocrats heading to the far reaches of empire. This is chambered in 476 eley (same as 455 eley) the Brit military pistol cartridge of the day. These have been called Howdah pistols but I consider Howdahs to be in the larger calibers to carry in the howdah on an elephant for protection from large beasts. This has the Lancaster "oval" bore rather than rifleing to protect against black powder fouling. Excellant unrefinished shape with a little pitting in the bores and minor freckling on the frame. 35% fadeing case and blue. Cased with the correct pistol rod,a glass oil bottle (Stephen Grant label), an ivory accessory box and a partly full metal "tropical" box of Kynoch cartridges(14). This is an antique and does not require federal paperwork. It will not be shipped out of the US. Brass emblem on lid of case ,can't read initials. This gun was ordered by Lord Lethbridge in 1889,apparently just before he entered the Grenedier guards according to my English sources. He retired in about 1906 when he inherited large estates from his father ,the third baronet. Leather case in good conditon

.
Are you planning on shooting tigers off the back of an Elephant on your next Safari, John? :)

I remember a rather exciting artist's drawing of a hunter using one at the tiger that was climbing up on the back of his Elephant.

Hi Wayne, if only I could, I would sell everything and my bag would be packed.
Merry Christmas

Good to hear that you got it, and thanks for honoring your finder fee offer. But you have done enough favors for me over the years that I would be ashamed to take anything for 5 minutes of searching the internet. Besides, I enjoyed the challenge.

Hi Rob
Well my second Lancaster arrived today thanks to your tip. I am as happy as a little kid at Christmas, guess Iam not getting as old as I thought, she is a peach!!! A two barrel model in .476 with a case I will post photos tomorrow when I am in the office, she compliments my four barrel .476 beautifully. I picked up a second four barrel .476 at the Vegas gunshow (far more fun than the Shot Show) and I have one .380 CF coming from Australia so my collection is off to a great start.

Rob as you graciously passed up the $100 finders fee I will forward a cheque to the CSSA, thank you.

Keep the tips coming as I am still looking for several different variants. "I will pay $100 finders fees for any info leading to a purchase for a gun that I do not already know about."
