100 lbs of Pewter

You know where I live. I'm sure there is always a goodie bag of some sort kicking around...maybe even a beer this time.

Sounds good! I'm getting my casting setup put together right now, have my controller for the pot and just assembling it. Oven hood for ventilation and "stuff". Will post a thread on the results when it warms up enough to put it all together! Seeing your setup helped a lot with planning mine, much appreciated.

Tin is used to get better fiklout from your molds. It is suggested to add 2-3% tin to lead...so 0.5 lbs per 25 lbs.

I've got about 40 lbs of pewter and more than twice that in solder, never mind the babbit.

Would not be worth it to pay postage. go the the local scrap metals shop and pick up roofing lead for 60cents a pound or so.

Also the last pewter candle sticks I scored had f-ing plaster of paris poured in it so it turned out to be only very thin pewter.

Off topic a bit but it's not unusual for knife handles and candle sticks to be filled with cement or plaster, etc to get the weight right.

4 oz of pewter in over 30 lbs of lead makes my alloy flow very thin and filling the mold so good. I know all the thrift stores in my area and I collected large amounts of pewter trinkets for cheap. In my opinion thrift stores are the best source of cheap pewter. When I won't find trinkets anymore I will have no choice but buying for whatever price I will find. Tin is amazing in the alloy hands down.
Today I made another experiment with mixing alloys and once again the pewter in the mix showed it's value.
Pewter rulz.
