100 Yard .22LR Challenge

Last year, when I posted here: https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/threads/100-yard-22lr-challenge.2297200/post-20350190, I was awaiting Cataract surgery and was completely blind in my right eye. In October and November, I got in for the surgery, so these are my first attempts since. There have also been a few upgrades to the rifle as well, the most significant being a new take off CZUB 20" varmint barrel with a CZ compensator. Other odds and ends include an upgraded (but still amazon) bipod; a straight pistol grip; a Glade's tactical bolt handle and knob. I also shot three targets to compare Tac-22, Norma Jakt Match and Eley Contact.

This was shot at Milverton Rod and Gun; surprisingly warm yesterday at 16 degrees c, wind was from right to left, but minimal at 0 to maybe 5 km. Sunny but not direct sunlight.

First target was Tac-22.
Maximum spread was as follows
  1. 1.829
  2. 1.550
  3. 1.985 (Largest)
Average is 1.788"

Second target shot was with Eley Contact. It was initially shooting an inch huger than the previous ammo. I think it might be a bit hot for my old CZ LOL.

Finally went to Staples and had them print me off 200 targets for just over $70. Went to the Brockville district fish and game club on Saturday Apr26 th to test centerfire loads and try this challenge. It was raining with gusty wind from the north east from 2-12km.. no flags used cuz I hate getting wet!! Temp was 12*

Range is 100yards
Groups are as follows
Top Right 1.9450”-0.2160= 1.7290
Bottom R 1.6220”-0.2160= 1.4060
Bottom L. 1.2910”-0.2160= 1.0750
Average 1.4033”
Just for curiosity I removed the two worst rounds from the three groups and the average was reduced considerably down to 0.725” with the best group at 0.537” Moral of the story? Get wet and put up flags. Haha

Shot on Range five at SGC with a BSA Martini International MKlll. Scope is a Bushnell Elite 4200 8-32x40. Ammo was SK Standard +

I'll try to do better on my next attempt.

1st target 1.106, 2nd 1.312, 3rd .877.
Three group average =1.098

My best groups so far, shot Yesterday, May 10 at Milverton Rod and Gun.
Ammo was Tac-22.
Wind was variable from dead calm to gusty up to about 25 km/hour; but blowing downrange.
Same rifle and rest set up was used and the last post, #141 above. Only change was I cleaned the rifle before shooting this time.
Group size as follows:

  1. 1.208"
  2. 0.954
  3. 1.382
Average 1.181

I have seen these calculations for score but I don't have time for the long calculation.
Count the number of shots (10), add the minus's and subtract that from 100.
Same for the X's. Count the shots outside the X-ring and subtract from 10 unless the x's are easier to count.
The long calculation is a waste of time when you have 40-50 targets to score.
 
Without shooters making submissions in this non-competitive 100 yard challenge the post below may be an epitaph of sorts. Here no one is in competition against other shooters. Post your best three ten-shot group target that meets the requirements (see the instructions in post #1).

This morning conditions were good and I got some satisfying results. Luckily, the boxes of ammo I used had few flyers. Of twenty groups I was able to shoot 13 consecutive sub-1" ten shot groups. Only three groups exceeded one inch.

I was shooting my 54.30, a rifle with which I had yet to shoot a sub-.700" three group target. I was able to do that today.






The group sizes are 0.580", 0.765", and 0.551". The average of the three is 0.632".

The rifle is an Anschutz 54.30 with a Starik tuner that may or may not have helped. The scope is a Sightron SIII 45X and the ammo was Midas+.

 
Finally got a morning without the prevailing Chilliwack winds to properly test a new rifle @ 100 meters.

Anschutz 1710 ES SS 23" barrel
Sightron 10-50x60
Harris bipod
SK LRM ammo
average group size 1.055". Shot 2 other targets as well with average group size of 1.069 & 1.144"

Quite pleased with the outing and looking forward to better groups!
