100 Yard Match

The Americans did some form of formal 100 yards competition in the mid-90's. It was called Ultra 100. It was a 20 bulleyes target. They eventually let it down because there was not much interest in .22LR 100 yards benchrest shooting. Now, everywhere on the planet, formal .22LR benchest competition is shot at 50 meters or 50 yards.

If you want to set up a formal BR match, why don't you use an existing target ? The Shooting Federation of Canada will be glad to sell you the B.R.R.F. 50-50 target. It is a 25 bulleyes target which is a copy of the USRA target:

It is shot at 50 yards and the perfect score is 250-25X.
 
The target looks like the one Alflipo(Alex) made up for the Parksville Qualicum 100yrd precission shoot that is held once a month. 100yrds benched using the best ammo for your particular rifle ,scoped with the best you can afford.These guys and girls are getting sub 1" groups out of 22s at 100yrds.Pretty damn good.Graham
 
100 yards is still to close IMHO.
I like the old British system of 200 yards...with apature sights. :D

That would thin the heard abit in the finals. :D
 
griaguns, that is kind of what i modeled the target after :). Do you go to that match? I was there a couple weeks ago just watching. Going to compete in that match next Saturday it is on.

I am talking and the Parksvile Qualicum match you were talking about btw.

2 Years ago we had the provincial championships for 100 yrd Bench rest scoped rifles so there is a history here in B.C. for this shoot .It ws held durring the Small bore provincial championships.Graham
 
Although I have not shot them for some time, I believe the SFC smallbore Nationals still have an "any sight" 100 yard event, plus the 100 yard prone with irons.

Only iron sights are now allowed for the National. All shooting is done at 50 meters, except for the Dewar match that is shot at both 50 yards and 100 yards (20 shots for each distance). This match is open to the top 20 shooters in I.S.S.F. Prone Aggregate .

Oh well, times change.
The last time I shot the nationals was 1970 I think, in Winnepeg.
We had to postpone for a day because it was raining so hard the targets and backing would not stay on thhe frames!!:cool:

Here are my thoughts on everything.

Here are the classes that i think we should have:

Do you think we should do it like this:

50 yard unlimited (all rimfire calibers)
50 yard open sights (all rimfire calibers)
100 yard unlimited (all rimfire calibers
100 yard open sights (all rimfire calibers)

I like the above one most...

Or like this:

50 yard unlimited (.22lr only)
50 yard unlimited (.17HM2, .17HMR, 22 mag)
50 yard open sights (all calibers)
100 yard unlimited (.22lr only)
100 yard unlimited (17HM2, .17HMR, 22 mag)
100 yard open sights (all calibers)

I got these rules off of RFC and alltered them a bit...

1. From the front edge of the bench to the face of the target: ______ range

2. Weight: There is no limit on weight of the rifle or pistol.

3. Sights: There are no restrictions on scope power.

4. Iron sights with aperture rear and globe front may be used.

5. Diopter attachments may be used in iron sights.

6. Triggers may be adjusted to a light pull, but must be safe.

7. Ammunition _______

8. Rests: Shoot over sandbags, shot bags, rice bags or any old bag. Use a tripod, bipod, a block of wood or a rock for your front rest. A bunny ear or rabbit ear sandbag is recommended for buttstock support. Shoot from a bench. Shoot prone with a sling or over sandbags. Shoot over a log or the hood of your pickup if you want. One piece rests are allowed. Rests must not be secured to the bench. If you can push the rifle forward after recoil, and the crosshairs are back on the aiming point, it is a “return to battery” rest, and return to battery rests are not allowed.

9. You may shoot more than one rifle each month: Not more that four targets per rifle.

10. You may shoot on an indoor range from December to March. If you shoot indoors: For the December match, type (INDOORS) at the beginning of the third line of your score report.

11. Junior Shooters: The minimum age of a young person allowed in these competitions will be determined by the parent. A Junior shooter is a young persons who has not reached the age of 18. If your are a Junior: Type (Age 14): Or whatever your age, at the end of the first line of your score report.

Sorry, still figuring that out. Each target will be different though and each may have a different scoring meathod. For example, we will have one target for 100 yard iron sights, 1 target for 50 yard iron sights, 1 target for 100 yard unlimited scoped, and 1 target for 50 yard unlimited scoped.

I think this is going to be a lot of fun. I will try to find some targets that we can use or make up a couple over the course of the next day or two.

and catnthehatt, yes, i meant iron sights not open sights...

I like those rules, I like the top set as well, but if we have all the data we can slice and dice the data. If you want I could wack together a quick little Access DB or somthing to hold the scores.
 
If we need a custom target, I can maybe make one up in Microsoft Word. Below are a couple sample of targets I have made, today actually, that I will use for my own personal shooting. The thing I like about these are the 1/2" grid marks, which on my printer at least, print to 1/2" exactly. Really, I don't care what we use, but Microsoft Word is actually a good program to use to make your own targets.;)
