1000 dollar scope for a .308

Hey folks im going to be purchasing a rem 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD in . 308 and dropping it into MDT Tac 21 chassis and im looking for a scope for it. This will used for target shooting upwards of 1000 yards.

Keep in mind there is a little leeway with the price but i am trying to keep the total build under $3500

Fine hair with 1/8 moa dot. It ain't cool but I loved mine. I'm pissed I let mine go with a rifle I sold. Should have included the "Tactical" scope I had instead. As for brand I'll let the guys who can afford the 1K glass speak...

Just a suggestion - shoot the rifle as is before putting a lot of money in it. The factory barrel may be just fine. Or a custom barrel might be indicated.
 
I just went thru this very same thing. I was comparing between the Sightron Models( Jerry at Mystic ) and Vortex PST line. Locally I was only able to look thru the Vortex scopes but really wanted to compare the two first. I posed these concerns to Jerry and he said if I wasnt happy with the glass in the Sightron he would gladly take it back with shipping on his dime. Thats how confident he is in the Sightron optics and that sold me right away. I couldnt be happier with the glass and in comparison to the Vortex PST stuff I find the clarity much better. I went with the 8-32x56 LRMOA.

On a side note and in talking with a few of the Precision Forum gurus I ended up going with the 8-32x56 instead of what I was originally looking at in the 6-24x50. Having the extra magnification at the top end of the range and being able to turn it down to say 24x made more sense to me for the extra $10. And just for your knowledge I have this optic mounted on a Tac21 chassis and the large objective bell clears the rail.

I hope to god it shoots fine with the stock barrel. The rifle is on order but i wont see it for a week or 2, but if it needs a custom barrel i may have to deal with it till the fall. I live in Thunder Bay and we have like 2 smiths in like a 500 km radius and there both back ordered till like next year or so i've been told. I went with that model for its heavy barrel that's threaded to accept compensators.

I hope you reload.

If you don't time to start. When it arrives and if your not a reloader, don't freak if it won't shoot for zhit. I've never had a factory rifle that could shoot over the counter stuff, and I've never had a factory bolt gun that I couldn't cajole a 3/4 MOA group out of.

I bought a Sightron 8x32x56 LRMOA and the scope is absolutely amazing. That is a Hydro tower at full magnification at 1300 yards.

It came to $1004 shipped to my door brand new, tax in
 
Everyone at the range looking through my S3 32x compliments it.

The S2 Big Sky 24x and 16x also has nice clear glass.
 
My dilemna is that Sightron offers scopes in Mil Dot, and MOA (lines) reticles. I want to learn my shooting technique in mils, but these Mil Dot sights we all know the dots are enormous and hard to be precise with. I know nightforce makes a Mil scope with lines instead of dots, but it is going to take me forever to save for a NF!!! Sightron's price is right, I just don't think they have the right scope for me!
 
I had the opportunity to try two tactical scopes, both 6-24x50 Tactical since I own them both, one in mil dots the other in MOA. I like shooting the MOA reticle a lot more since it offers an immediate hold over compensation without having to calculate too much.
