1000 dollar scope for a .308

Have a Vortex Viper 6-24 FFP with MRAD reticle/turrets. Shoot out to 1000m using 12 in gongs with a 300 WM. Nice simple reticle that's fine enough at long range to be precise with this setup. Illuminated reticle if you find the crosshairs too fine at low magnifications, although I've never had to use it yet. Also have a Sightron 1-7 for my short barrel, shorter range 308. Happy with both, although for different applications. Biggest seller for me on the Vortex was FFP with simple MRAD reticle. Not fond of busy glass.

3 Sightrons from Jerry and very happy . 6 x 24 x 50 , two are mil/moa , and the other is moa/moa . I looked at Vortex but got turned off by guys all over the net who were astounded by Vortex warranty . So many were so happy that when something screwed up they had a new scope that day or within days . You never hear or read that about Sightron , and that sold me .

I agree with this statement quite a bit, however there is a certain confidence exuded from a manufacture that will cover damage to the scope under any circumstances. I'd rather let my buddy drag my Vortex through the woods than my Zeiss. Is my Vortex as nice as my Zeiss? No, but it's darn close and half the price with a no worry warranty.

Cheers,
Cal.

Theres nothing like looking through Zeiss glass. Unless you're careless with your gear, a warranty shouldn't be a deciding factor. Specially if you're buying top quality stuff already.

Hypox!a, i feel gear is meant to be used and some of us are using this gear for hunting purposes, where it will get beat up a bit. Therefore if I'm buying top end gear I expect it to last for an undetermined period of time and I expect the manufacturer to back up there product. This is where the warranty comes in.

Warranty??? What is warranty good for really???You can wipe you bum with the warranty if you like.

In the bush your scope fails , no more hunting, vehicle poops out in the boonies, you are stuck.

I don't buy for warranty , never will , and it is NOT a selling point to me.

Buy the product that you have faith in and believe will work, don't abuse your gear and life will be well.

My thought to... JP.

warranty is somewhat important if your scope fails (they all can/will) and it takes half a year to get the issue resolved. Then I bet you care about warranty :)

Hey folks im going to be purchasing a rem 700 SPS tactical AAC-SD in . 308 and dropping it into MDT Tac 21 chassis and im looking for a scope for it. This will used for target shooting upwards of 1000 yards.

Keep in mind there is a little leeway with the price but i am trying to keep the total build under $3500

Thanks for the input.

You'll love the rifle, I do mine http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/foru...per-Tactical&p=8494862&viewfull=1#post8494862

I used a Hi-Lux Leatherwood scope. They're very good, and well priced. However, be aware that you will have to use tall rings, the rail is very low on the TAC21 frame.

BTW, the TAC21 mags are expensive, but they hold 12 rounds.

There are Sightron mildot/ mil rad clicks scopes

No FFPs as of yet but maybe later this year. Nothing official so I have no further info.

See the website for several more scopes for 2013.

Let me know

Jerry

Do you have their SIIISS832X56LRMOA? I'm looking for higher magnification.

I purchased 2 Sightron S3 8x32x56, then a NF 8x32x56 BR scope. I will be purchasing my 3rd Sightron from Prophet River very soon Not complaining about the NF , but for the price and intended application the Sightron will top my .338LM
