I watched a guy shoot at 1000 yards with a 16" barrelled ar and although he didn't hit the target due to scope mount issues..he was reaching the distance.
Here he is.

about 12 years ago i tried it at 800 i got about 8 out of 10 on the target a few tumblers though. the bullet looses most of its energy long before that 3 to 400,

Ya if your in the butts you can return the hit with a squash racket:D

I've never tried that sort of distance, but Brent Clearman (RIP) told me that he hit a guy at around 1000 in Iraq with an M16A4 with ACOG. If it was anyone else who said it I would have thought BS, but coming from him I believed it.

If you're mag feeding, the only bullet I know of that will do the job is the Hornady 75gr HPBT #2279. Push it as fast as it will go (with a powder like H322, H335, BL-C(2), W748, and so on) and it will be comfortably supersonic at 1000.

With single feed, you can use a lot of other bullets.

The rifle above is a 6.5 Grendel. The guy shooting it is Bill Alexander, the inventor of said round.
I worked the butts for him at 1000 yards and he couldn't get it on paper due to scope mount issues but the rounds were hitting the berm behind me with authority.
I want one...

77gr MK262 won't fit in a magazine????

"that I know of" doesn't include every bullet. It also assumes that I've run ballistics on a viable load that shows supersonic performance at 1000 yards. Of course MK262 will fit a magazine. I believe it will exit a 16" barrel at about 2700fps, which may or may not still be performing at 1000 yards, and I have no idea what it will do out of a 20" or 24" barrel. Perhaps someone else knows the BC's etc. and will figure this out.

out of my SPR clone with the MK262 I get 2680avg out of my 18" barrel

NO problem but unlikely to be as accurate as a bolt rifle.

With a NATO or Wylde spec chamber, just seat a 75gr or 80gr Amax out to just off the lands (single feed is ideal). Fill with an appropriate powder and have at it. you will need a 9 (75gr Amax) or 8/7 twist (75 or 80gr Amax).

Just have a look at Camp Perry Service rifles, the many 3 Gun Space rifles, and F(TR).

An AR will go slower then a long barreled bolt rifle but fast enough (2700 to 2800fps) to make the trip to 1000yds. Ballistics and Accuracy will be no worse then an M305. Actually, the AR can be made more accurate.

Less aerodynamic bullets like the HP match or ammo made to fit in the mag may not perform as well.
