1000 yard bench rest

Tweedsmuir Park R&G Club in Burns Lake BC holds these every spring.
Also they have informal matches all summer long on various weekends.
Prince George is working on one...not sure of completion yet.

Oh right! I always forget about Tweedsmuir.

I have an insider regarding the 1000 yard range in PG so I'm keeping a close eye on that. I don't think they are planning to build benches though but I could be wrong.

I just need to figure out what cartridge to use for 1000 yard BR. I have a #7 30" Krieger blank in 30 cal, 1x10 twist that I'd like to use one day. It's been sitting on my shelf for 3 years now. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the info guys.

While a few 30 cal rifles are shot at the 1K in Burns, 6mm's and 6.5mm's dominate the field.
I shoot 3 chamberings [different classes] 260AI, 6.5x55AI and 6BR
the 6x47L & 6.5x47L are popular, the 243 Winchester has a few adherents.
7mag is used by a couple, and there are couple of 300 Win Mags and a 308 Norma that show up occasionally.
I am thinking about building another 6mm to shoot the long 115 grain VLD's
Winning groups are usually in the 4"-7" range, but smaller groups show up from time to time.
Regards, Eagleye.

Agreed. Those 6mm and 6.5 chamberings sure seem to kick ass. However I currently have a 6.5x284 set up for Fclass and a 6.5x47L set up for tactical rifle style matches. What I'd really like is a single shot precision rifle in 30 cal because the only 30's I have is an M1A and a Ruger #1 in 300 WinMag. I could use my 6.5x284 for BR as it performs very well and has printed 4 to 5" groups at 900m on occasion if I get lucky. I also see a 6mmBR in my future.

Ok I am in

for 600 yard BR the 6.5 by 47 is prety good, with a left port to shoot fast,

for 1000 in butt fart montana or deep creek as it is called, they almost all use a 6 dasher in a 17 pound gun (guys cannot lift a real gun)

I am going ot attend htis year, was in august I think last year, a fellow shooter from south dakota is going ot bring me a gun to use,

Jefferson (BR god or goddess of the west depending on the day) note that joke means how I finished in the wind, inside joke

I was thinking a 6 dasher in my Fclass rifle for BR would be a good choice. I'll have to see what the weights classes are in long range BR. I think my Savage 12 currently weighs around 22lbs more or less which is I believe the limit for Fclass. Still want a 30 cal just because I don't have one.

30-06 match chamber, using Lapua brass could be fun. Throat it for 190 / 205 grain bullets. Long range BR weights are heavy gun less than 17 lbs. and over 17 lbs is unlimited.

30-06 is an old school target [sleeper] cartridge!
Easy to load for, easy on the pocket book and superbly accurate. It will deliver the mail out to 1000yds with ease!

Shhhh! You're making it sound like a winner for geezers only! Where were you last weekend? Thought you'd be at the one mile shoot.

300 wsm

30-06 eh...Which would have more recoil with all other things being equal? The 30-06 or 300 WSM?

would hit you harder even the 06 is not to pleasant either. But if you are building it is a TRUE 1000 yard BR rifle you cn either build it as a heavy gun or light gun.

NBRSA website has the weight restrictions.
