1000 yard Rifle

Muzzle brakes do minimize recoil, which is an unfair advantage but more importantly, when you are shooting basically shoulder to shoulder, having a 338 lapua magnum muzzle blast in your face is just plain painful, plus they can obscure other shooters' sight pictures through kicking up crap.

Take your pick. Remington, Tikka and Savage are all good shooters and upgradeable. Don't get sucked into this tedious brand hugging because they all have advantages, disadvantages and a wide continuum of accuracy. Find one YOU like and YOU find comfortable to start with.

Maybe connect with the guys that actually do the gunsmithing upgrades and ask them what they like to work on and what they feel is a well-made and well-designed platform. CGN guys like Leeper and Guntech are precision rifle gurus, and damned-fine marksmen in their own right. They will gladly give you the benefit of their expertice and experience.
