1000 yard scope

I am looking into setting my rifle up for 1000 yard shots. What kind of scope do you guys use ? I have looked at the Shepard scope and a couple others but wanted to ask you guys first. I was looking to spend around $ 1000.00 on the scope, is this enough ? Do I need to sell my wife for optics ? :dancingbanana:
 
You should do OK at $1000.00 I have a Bosch and Lomb 4200 fixed 36 power (pre bushnell). Haven't reached out to 1000 yrd yet but the 36x is enough. Many shooters have variable power 6-24 and shoot that distance.
 
6x24-50 should be ample for that distance.
Then the choice of reticle is very personal and will determine the brand/manufacture.
IOR with an MP-8 is my personal preference. Adjustment range/elevation is also important at that distance.

Just about anything in the 6-25 variable range will suit quite well, but the higher you go, the more mirage you'll experience on hot days.

As mentioned, make sure you have enough elevation adjustment to reach out that far. Something with 75 + minutes shoud work depending on what caliber you are shooting. Or you may have to look into canted MOA bases or offset rings.

With the budget you mentioned, you should find a great selection.

By all accounts S&B are top of the line. If you have S&B $$$, you'll also want to check out USO. I like the "custom build" you get with USO and quality is without peer. The lower US peso is makin em darn near affordable too. Check out their "T-Pal" line.
 
I've just got a 1000yd rig set up and I used a leupold mk iv 4.5-14x50 with mil dot reticle. I'm not a huge fan of much more power than 14, I find that you loose light, clarity and the ability to hold the scope steady at 20 power. However I have not yet got out to 1000yds.....yet. I think that my mk iv is one hell of a nice scope and cant wait to stretch it out this summer.
 
I am going to also echo the Nightforce option. I would opt for the BR models over the NXS line if your rifle sees light to mild duty. The BR models will be three to four hundred over your 1000.00 limit.
 
nightforce! there is a good chance you would not need 20 moa base to get to 1000! they have 110moa in the tube
 
IF your shooting comp's then the Nightforce BR model will be more then sufficent. As Troy G has stated the BR is noticable less expensive and does not have the side focus not an issue if you are shooting at fixed distances.
It comes in either 8-32x56 or 12-42x56 1/8 clicks. They have 40 to 50 minute of elevation so a tapered base is recommended.
