So I have been limited as of late for getting time in at the range. I finally got a few extra minutes in and decided to see how far I could get out. I managed to get to 1000 yards.

The black gong is at 800 yards and the orange one and the targets are at 1000. This is the first time that I have had this rifle shooting this far. While I have some work to do I am very happy with my load and shooting. The hardest part of today was that I was dealing with wind at 30 km/h and having gusts near 60 km/h. My wind sock only goes to 40 km/h at full so beyond that I don't know what the wind is at.

Some pictures for your viewing pleasure.

I need a new pipe to hold my gong.

I will add some more pictures when my computer will open photobucket again.

Awesome shooting.

Mind if I ask what scope you used?

Nightforce 5.5-22x56

Nice shooting, with the camera too. I'm envious of your range, does the wind ever calm down?

The wind is almost always blowing. It does calm down but not often. I have another part of the field that I use and it gives me 500 yards. The wind is always behind me so is doesn't give me much trouble. I am going to try a new set up soon that will give me around 1450 yards. Beyond that I am going to have to find a new place to shoot if I want to go further.

My wife says I'm allowed to go outside and play with you, I have a gun too. :D

Wind

Bobjoe, you're shooting at the wrong time of day. Rig up some lights or night vision up your scope. Night winds are slowing to 20k. That's fine shooting for conditions.

The 5.5-22X56 has a reticle that lights up!!
Nice plinking by the way. Looks like its coming together.
Curious how big are the squares?

Nice shooting! And, I love that scope. I MUST have one! I am very seriously looking for a long range, coyote gun, and i'm very seriously thinking about that scope. Another one, albeit much cheaper, is the A.R.T M-1200..... But, Im not sure of what caliber i will be getting.... Its between 22-250, 223, or .308 at this time, but certainly not limited to. A buddy tells me i should go with the 223, as im wanting to get an SL-8 in the worst way, and a varmint rifle in .223 keeps my ammo buying less... but im hearing handloading the .223 is almost pointless.... i dunno.

anyways, keep up the awesome shooting!

Good job BOBJOE!

There is nothing like it! Especially when you first hit that gong!

If you want to shoot without the wind, try shooting at or near first light of the morning.
Sometimes its fairly still for a short time. At least here it is.

Thats some great shooting. What type of a rifle is sitting under that scope. Looks like a sweet set-up. Was also curious as to what type of steel targets your using and where you got them from. They look like they stand up quite well with all your hits. Is the black one with stand the same as orange. I would love to have a set-up like that one day!

Haha who told you it was pointless? Handloading is still the best way to extract the most precision out of your rifle. Some of the new .223 bullets go to 1000 better than .308s if you tune them properly! Don't rule it out!!

The rifle is a 110 savage in 338lm. The two gongs are different. The black one is 1/2 ar500 and the orange one is a end cap from an old gas well. They are really thick and take a pounding.
