Well i'm finally get the chance to shoot a 1000 yards this weekend! I do feel a little intimidated I must say. I'm shooting a Savage 12 FVSS 308 with Sightron 10-50x60 and 168gr Sierra's HPBT match with 44gr Varget. I have the scope mounted on a 20MOA rail as well. I have shot out to 800yds a couple times before but just at rocks not targets. I have i-snipe on the i-phone and ready to rock! Any advise I could use would be appreciate!

Yes, the 168grs Sierra MK will not make it to 1000yds in a .308 Winchester case. You need a 155, 175, 185 grs match bullet.
The 168grs International bullet was designed for 600 meters with the .308 case. I've witnessed it hitting the target sideways @ 1000yds or not hitting it all as it zings by in the target butts.

I know a guy who just didn't have the combination of gun and ammo to get out that far.
He eventually settled in on a shot-put style swinging trigger pull which got him those extra yards, but no one would shoot with him anymore...

Yes, please don't use the Sierra 168grs. I don't want to see your first time @1000yds turn into frustration.
Keep those 168grs and use them up for short range. They are excellent at that and I still use them.
Sightron 10-50-60 only have 50moa total Elevation Travel.let said + 20moa rail you may have 45 moa up Elevation if you luck.
168gr hpbt+44gr varget. 26 in barrel may have 2700 fps .1000 y need 39 moa elevation ajiustment if you do it right.
but the Q; is do you have 45 moa up elevation ajustment?
i used 168gr but no luck. then 155gr Lapua do the job.
i used Sightron 8-32x56mm + my 700 remmy have 20 in barrel. 44.5 gr varget, 43moa elevation ajustment get me hit 1000y.
my sightron have 70 moa total elevation ajustment. + 20 moa rail on my remmy. luck i have 54 moa total ajustment can use.

Fox alpha there are a lot of places you can shoot far in and around the Kelowna area. I have a few different spots, 1 that I can shoot at targets out to 1800 yards. Takes some time to find and build such spots but they out there.
The problem with 168's are they loose stability in there spin.
Anyway hey look. I live in southern Alberta. Flat land with no trees. I can shoot 1000 in my back yard. If its your first time just have some fun hitting the target ! Don't expect to get sub moa groups it first time. Hitting the target is fun enough.
Smack it with ur 168's and prove to these guys u can do it.
If I can targets with a 6xc way out past 1800y aka outa the limit... You can do 1000 with a 168. Giver for now and have fun so u can at least say u did it. I would rather u have fun and a goal to beat every other time than go out with an undeveloped load and not hit anything. You can do it !
