Our Range in Fort mcmurray has just been completly re done with nice walking paths all the way out to 1000Yrds cant wait to try the new gun out there. It should be all re Opened here in the next few weeks.
 
It's always nice to hear about another range opening, but it's _really_ great to hear of another 1000 yard range opening!

Does the range have a manned target gallery (so you get a shot-by-shot indication of where you are hitting), or does it have fixed target frame (so you fire some shots, make the range safe, then drive down and look at the target)?

I am deeply jealous. We have SFA around Calgary beyond 100yds aside from Homestead and all the APRA bulls**t and politics that go with it. RMH may or may not remain functional as well and they were working up to a 1200yd range (currently 500yds, I believe). Hopefully that doesn't get derailed with all the recent drama there.

We are hoping for 400yds out of the next CDTSA range when it is finished (CFO willing), which will be a big improvment, but is a far cry from 1000yds.

Enjoy the new facilities and shoot a few for us poor bastards down here that can only dream of such a range.

They are Still working on the Logistics of the targeting system. I beleive they are talking about a manned Bunker in the ground. I will pass on details when I hear them and hopefully one day we can have a shoot up here. its a wonderful facility.
 
1000 yard range

I have a 1000 yd range off my front deck but the targets are on the other side of the river. So I don't use it. How's that for a sob story. I thought the Fort Mac range was 1000 yds and has been for a few years.

I live in Peace River and don't expect much change in the rifle range.
 
We had the tange cleard to 1000yrds a few yrs back but dew to the Swamp it was not accessible in the Summer we have recently had a contractor in to dig down and add a gravel trail all the way to the 1000yrd mark.
 
It's going to be interesting to see how things work out, shooters are going to need an atv or other means of getting to the 1000 yard distance, as the range adjoins the regular range, and it won't be feasible to close the other range for an hour for someone to walk out, hang targets at 1000 yards, and walk back, on a regular basis.

There was some talk about it but that died off. Railroad tracks would require a shift to the west. Muskeg would eliminate retractable targets for any events and not much interest. Dunvagen fish and game has been approved for 1000 yds. but don't know if they're proceeding.
