104 Years Old Today

Get a geneaologist to research the owner for you. If he emigrated to Canada, the date, name of ship and his declared destination in Canada will appear on the manifest. If he had a will, the gun may appear in the will. You might be able to trace its owners through the wills, in Canada or the UK.

Start by asking the person you bought it from who they bought it from and so on, back as far as you can go.

Yeh, I got a Colt 1878 10 gauge pushing 128 years old. Problem is it has been well used and shows it. Too bad it wasn't in the condition of the two guns shown in this thread. Nice guns gentlemen.w:h:

So if "the original owner" were to buy that gun today, how much would it cost?
He probably couldn't no matter how much money he had. I don't think there are any English makers currently producing boxlock sxs. It's all sidelocks and trigger plate guns now.

You might be able to replicate that gun. Galazan in the U.S. could probably make one on the Fox frame. Expect a starting price of $25,000 and up.

AyA could probably come close using the Model #4 as a platform with extensive customization. Starting price would be around $10,000 with about a third of that going into the wood blank. Nice wood is available but just very expensive.

And that doesn't include the case. There is a collectors market for original maker's cases. They can cost thousands.

Using the bank of england's inflation calculator 47 pounds in 1906 is 4260.32 pounds in 2009 (most recent data is from 2009)

4260.32 in cdn dollars is $6545.85

If that design were still made in england today you could expect to pay upwards of 50,000 dollars for something that hand made.

and yes wood as good and even much better is still available new today.

Still a beautiful SxS
