I have the opportunity to get a new 10FP in .223 now for $630 bucks or wait 2 weeks for a Stevens 200 in .223 for $391. I dont know which one to get its soo confusing:p. Im just looking for a nice entry level rig, so any input would be greatly appreciated. As for a scope I was thinking if picking up one of the Leupold repros someone is selling on the board here, they got some good reviews. Thanks for you advice!

Id get the Stevens, and choose a Bushnell Elite 3200 10x40 for $250 if I wanted a good scope for range shooting.

The Steven's is a hunting rifle that ain't pretty but it shoots very well. Its well worth every penny for what you get.

The 10FP has a crappy stock as well but the heavy barrel is very good and the Accutrigger is also very good for a factory trigger. The 12FV is $580 if you can find one and has a 26" barrel but the bolt body isn't black tactical color.

If you buy the heavy, it can last you for a long time. If you buy the sporter, it is really only good for hunting unless you can find another barrel and swap it out yourself.

Cheers, and don't forget to buy a whack of Winchester white box varmint rounds.

I got tired of waiting for my stevens 223 so I got the Savage 12 fv, glad I did, that bigger barrel will come in handy when the gophers get sloppy. The oversize bolt handle is a surprising plus.

I owned a Savage 10fple in .223 for a while and was very impressed by its performance. I did some modifications to the stock to make it quite a bit stiffer and smoothed the whole thing out. Added an aftermarket oversize bolt handle and some other trick doo dads.

After some load development this thing would shoot one ragged hole all day long at 100yards and have lots of witnesses to prove it :)

I have been kicking myself lately for ever selling it. There is another gun nut around these parts who is now the proud owner. I would buy another one in a second.

Good luck with your choice! Take your time and make the right one ;)
