Hey, I'm looking to get me a 10 for waterfowl and have a few questions.
Is there a manufacture that makes new SXS guns that have choke tubes and shoot steel? If not, what would you guys recommend? I'm not interested in an auto at this time.
I did notice H&R makes a single shot, this will do...if it has to...but a double is doubly cool!
Thanks!

There were a few 10 bore double guns available in the 70's to 90's of note were the Spanish Zabala guns the few I've encountered even the fixed choked ones were steel proofed because they were made for the American waterfowl market in the 1980's.

I had an AYA 3 1/2" 10ga Mag SxS that I sold, regretted it and bought another, same but with nicer wood.

I was going to open the chokes so I could use steel but decided against that. As tight as it patterns I don't want to touch the chokes and will pick up some Bismuth or ITX shot instead.

Ok, I'll keep my eyes open for one of these. Do you know of any issues with these guns? Or, what to look for before I buy?

I'd leave the H and R single shot 10 gauges alone. They are brutal to shoot in my experience.

The Brownings are nice big 10s. I'd get the semi auto, if I didn't already have an SP-10.

Bilozir in Alberta did bring in some Spanish SxS 10 gauges a little bit ago. Call him if you want a new SxS 10 gauge. He might be able to set you up.

I love my sxs in 10 ga. Mine is Spanish made but not a zabala. It's a beast to haul around but a pussy cat to shoot. Hammers geese if I do my part. I also have an Hnr single. Geese loads are fine. 2-1/4 oz #4 turkey loads kick hard though. Nothing beats waterfowling with a nice sxs.

That aya is beautiful

Once owned a 12 lb Spanish SXS 3 1/2 for ducks, geese and jackrabbits but it shook my fillings loose. Sold it and got an Ithaca Mag 10. What a difference and once I had the choke opened up to .020" constriction from full choke, it patterned BB and BBB steel really well. Mag 10 recoil was like a semi-auto 12 ga skeet gun.

I have old Stevens single , bps and gold and unless your shooting lead recoil is more then manageable IMO. Most ppl I see are scared of the word 10 ga and my wife shoots my 10s ( box and half one morning) I'd go with the gold if possible as the bps are great but being bottom eject its more to do for a fast reload for crips.

As you age you appreciate the GOLD. Sold my BPS about two years ago and my shoulder loves me for it. Cheers :)

Myself I currently have a 10 gauge German made drilling on it's way from Texas, via the export FFL dealer in Montana.
The only thing a bit odd, is that it is a BP cartridge hammer drilling from the late 1890s. (no steel shot here, just lead for upland & big game only)

I can hardly wait to get my grimy little rat claws on it. ;)

I've got an Italian Armsport O/U 10 gauge with dual triggers and extractors, 32 inch barrels opened to modified . Recoil is lighter than some 12 gauge gas guns. Weight is right up there, but the way stack-barrels handle you wouldn't really notice that shooting.

If you can find one, they don't go that high.

I have an H&R Pardner single shot in 10 ga, with an extra full choke on it. Not sure of the barrel length, but it's pretty short (22" maybe?), although it still patterns very well. They are quite hard to find, and ammo is just as scarce. It's heavy, loud and kicks a lot, but it's an amazing piece of kit.
