Anyone out there gunna drag a 10ga in for turkey this year? I just patterned my sxs in at 30 and 40 yards. Should be fun carrying an 11lb gun and 28lb bird out

Not powerful enough, you need minimum an 8 guage with 00 buck and even then 20 yards is max! Lol. But seriously, if I had a 10 that's what I would use.

The chokes needed for a good turkey gun are very different than those needed for a good goose gun. Did you have your gun reamed out? Watch what shells you are buying, I had a friend tell me about a great deal he found on 10 gauge steel shells, if he had taken the time to read the boxes he would have realised that he had bought 1 3/8 ounce loads, which were available in 12 gauge for 3$ less abox and the 10 gauge shells were low velocity 1100fps or so shells to boot.

I try to keep my shot close so no real need for a 10 on my end. That being said and H&R single might not be too bad for highly pressured late season turkeys.

I only load my own for turkey in 10g and 12g 3.5"and 3". I try to split the two guns each spring but I always seem to favour the 10. The 12 gives you a better choice of effective chokes but I like the bigger bang. It's like driving a 6cly compared to a diesel, both will get you there:)

I'm getting great patterns with the full 34" barrel and the other is a mod which is great for closer shots. I'm shooting 2 1/4 oz #6 and have #4s as well. For later season birds I have a custom 4x choke for my 31/2" 12ga
