I finally bought a MEC 600jr for 10ga and im ready to reload now. I got all the components. I've been thinking of loading some exotic loads such as x18 000 buck. This load is mentioned in one of the manuals (Ballistic Products) but powder data is not provided. This load will be close to 3oz in weight.

Now i know that such a heavy/slow load is not practical for most purposes, but i still want to do it.. Just because i can.
10ga 3-1/2" shell can also fit up to 3oz of birdshot. Im sure somebody out there tried similar loads. What would be a good starting point as far as powder goes?

Thanks in advance!

I have loading data for Federal Plastic Hi Power hull, 17#0, Fed.209, 46.0/Blue Dot, Rem.SP10 wad and one .135" 20 gauge card inserted into bottom of shot cup, 1300fps, 10,000LUP/psi.

Winchester Plastic Poly Formed hull, 17#0, Win209, 51.0/Blue Dot, Rem.SP10 wad, no card, 1300fps, 9,500LUP/psi. info from Reloading for Shotgunners 3rd edition.

The heaviest shot load data I have found for a 10ga was a turkey load, 2 3/8 oz load off a web site ( no referrence from what book or company? )and have not found anything heavier than 2 1/4 from a reloading book? I found that a 2 oz load of lead grouped better out of my gun than a 2 1/4 load for turkey? Not sure if this will help you?

I'd tread carefully here, all the loads shown with pressure figures are 2 1/4 oz., raising the payload 3/4 oz. will greatly increase the pressure, I wouldn't attempt it unless i saw pressure tested loads like it somewhere, and I haven't. Progressive burning smokeless powder does not seem like the right place to mess with overloads in the 10 gauge.

x2.

my old man used to have a load for it at one point and load it but he burnt the book after becase he was afraid the book would kill him lol

Bumping this thread to see if anyone else can help me with my question. ( Thanks to people who replied, but none of the answers were exactly what i was looking for).

Im still looking to experiment with the 10ga. 2 1/4 oz loads that most reloading manuals list will work just fine for most purposes, but i still want to try heavier loads just for fun.

Anybody here with some kind of software that can suggest a starting powder charge (to work up from) for such a heavy load? I would prefer to use Alliant Blue Dot (because i have lots of it).
The gun im shooting it from is a cheap single shot 10ga, so im not worried about beating up a semi.

Thanks!
